Reddit Stock in Offer

Does the stock award come as an option, or is it private equity which converts to public shares in the event of an IPO?

It's the latter (I worked at reddit for 1 yr.). But, take that with an enormous grain of salt...when I started there in 2021 the recruiter made a big deal about how much reddit was valued. Since then my "shares" (in quotes because it's not real money yet) in reddit have plummeted more than 50% and there is no sign that they are gonna have some liquidity event anytime soon, in spite of what they claim. Caveat emptor if you are considering joing reddit.

What made you leave after a year? I've heard some things but always curious to get more perspective

Chaotic af. I also joined and left because I did not think they would ever IPO. It felt like being at Stripe again.

It’s RSU

Is it a private share? What were they actually worth at the last vest?

Reddit gwiwjxb Mar 22, 2023

I think right now each share is valued at like $22.4 when I joined each share was valued at like $64. So basically 1/3 of the value when I joined lol

Then why you staying around? Is that dilution and they gave you more shares?

Google wondershow Mar 22, 2023

Who knows if they're trying to stick around

I live in a very LCOL area, so no need to rush for changes in job even if the equity goes down. Reddit offers pretty competitive base salaries, so even if the equity isn’t there, it’s not like I would be able to cash out on the RSU unless they go public. Reddit base gives me a very cushy lifestyle for where I live.
