As promised, it stopped working for me. Started showing http 429 errors when loading. I uninstalled the app, after having used it for 10+ years, and cancelled my reddit premium subscription (choosing "other" as the reason, since there was nothing approximating the real reason from the predefined list). I still have my 15 year old account, but will probably use reddit much less often now. I tried the official app but it sucks for all the reasons others have mentioned. Mostly it just feels sluggish and is missing a bunch of basic RiF features.
Monetization
Yep. Well aware. I still think it may end up being a Digg 2.0 situation (for those who remember).
Same with Apollo, it was a good run Being able to smoothly and quickly view/download videos (so that I can share them) was such a nice QoL feature that’s even missing on web for Reddit-hosted video
I love how foldable phones are becoming mainstream now that the pixel fold is out just in time for the dumpster fire, that is the reddit app. It's like they want nobody to use a mobile app anymore. Strange.
Reddit is all porn in retaliation these last few weeks
Fitting because whatever I search in the official app's search bar it returns porn results with image previews. Great UX showing that in public.
Best of all, Reddit disabled the api tokens earlier than the deadline which caused 3rd party clients to start crashing. Classy to the last
It wouldn’t even be so terrible if their own app wasn’t borderline unusable. Like, fine if you want to show more ads, but at a minimum make videos work. To punish good, hard-working developers who built a better product - that by the way, helped grow your community - by shutting them down just so you can better monetize users is just so anti consumer/user, I have a hard time stomaching visiting that site anymore.
reddit app has got to be by far the worst social networking app I've ever seen. It's amazing how bad leadership and product is at reddit.
Do people expect the app to **** you off? It shows me images videos and text. What else could you possibly need??
The app is fine. Most people have no issue with it, pretty crazy how the power users just want to call it trash,
I respect your opinion, ops, even if you are retards.
7.3.23 RIF is still working for me
They could have the best engineers in the world, and it would change nothing as long as you have an incompetent leadership group dictating priorities.
Right on Amazon!!
