What happens when most of your team is Indian?
I’m trying to schedule a Reddit onsite for SWE. 2 of the interviews are: Backend Engineering/DBs and Design/Architecture The description for BE/DBs is “Back End: Focus around distributed systems, networking, caching, databases, and servers. You’ll be using Codesignal for this interview and our interviews might ask you to screenshare.” That sounds like the same kind of stuff I’m asked to talk about in a typical system design interview, which I assume is the Design/Architecture interview. And what’s this about CodeSignal? Will I be asked to write code? Can someone at Reddit let me know what to expect for the Backend interview? I’m asking my recruiter as well, but I’d like to hear from a technical person if possible. TIA! TC: laid off
After the interview, please let us know how it went and which questions they asked :)
The backend interview is different from the design/arch interview. You will write code in the former and draw/design in the latter. The backend interview is a little more practical than merely data structure / algo found in some of the coding ones. For example, write a memcached server. Good luck! Hmm I have 0 experience with that kind of interview. Any idea how I would even go about preparing? Is it questions like this? https://leetcode.com/problems/lru-cache/
I never did the backend interview but from what I recall you will want to brush up on sockets, basic hash map and general systems knowledge. You should have a good idea on how you might deal with eviction. I don’t know of a good place to prep for this but your link is a decent start.
OP, how did your onsite go? What did they ask for the backend focus question? Was it implementing a memcached server? TCP server in python? I have onsite coming up, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Get the glue yet? This will determine the experience
