I am a designer with 6+ yoe offered roles at AWS and Reddit. Haven’t worked at big tech companies yet so I’m eager to try my hand. No TC yet. I’m looking to stay somewhere for a while as I want to grow my design leadership skills. Have expertise in data-intensive/ AI interfaces. Role at AWS seems like it’s better for career growth whereas Reddit it seems super difficult to climb a ladder since its quite management heavy already in the design org. Reddit does seem like an easier job though and potentially less interesting/ engaging. Wondering what you all think! #design #offers #Reddit #amazon #AWS #productdesign
disagree with the above advice. i’d probably go with growth opportunity. i doubt reddit can pay like amazon but also it’s gonna be less work. idk, id probably go with amazon and if i hated it it wouldn’t be hard to jump in 18 months. reddit just isn’t growing like amazon nor does it have the diversity of products and design challenges
This is why I’m leaning towards amazon
I like Reddit and all. It’s a fuzzy and warm culture feeling just not sure about personal growth.
Come design at Plaid :) tons of leadership opportunity and I actually feel supported to grow leadership skills for the first time in my design career
could i dm?
Lol have considered but didn’t hear back from application.
Don’t. Join. Amazon. The fact you have to ask this means you are not seasoned enough to avoid pip.
Tell me more
I’m joining as L6
Working for Amazon is like tossing the coin. If you get a good manager you’ll mostly be okay. If your manager turns out to be a selfish person than you are screwed for real good. All the PIP horror stories are true.
What team in AWS? The culture there is absolutely trash for design. If it’s Quicksight, stay far far away.
From personal experience? Where have you heard? I hear this a lot but I would love personal anecdotes
It’s not quick sight.
Reddits design vp, who I interviewed with Les seemed like a really intelligent guy.
Anything is better than amazon

Meta: Can I go from no name tech company to E5?
Congrats. Always go with the higher salary no matter what. If the salaries are the same—go with the easier job.
This is the dumbest suggestion I have read so far. Easier job doesn't teach u anything and u will never be able to grow and earn more. Salary is important but so is work culture and quality of work.
At this level, folks can learn what they want to learn. It’s all great if you can learn at work, but that is not why most people “put up” with typical tech work. Most folks work in tech to make money. At the stage, you alone are responsible for your learning and growth, not your job. Easy money is easy money.
