This is not a troll. If you read through this and can't directly help, please at least give this post a "like" to get more visibility. Short version: I am new to a company, have a newborn baby and got literally presented to PIP just over the 90 day mark (not devlist, not warning... actual pip). I have ONE question: Can I get referrals for corporate finance / tech finance roles? Long version: Background: I left Snap because I smelled layoffs would come. However, the company I'm at is also facing headcount reduction. Instead of laying me off, the company is offering me a "performance improvement plan". I mean, it has been only a couple of months... Timeline: around Aug, I had a newborn baby AND joined this new company.. Around Sep, my onboarding was subpar. I had no real tasks and had to figure out a lot of things on my own. Even basic tools like my environment setup I did without any guidance or help. I only got my first real task around end of Sep A couple of days ago, I got a surprise meeting with my manager and HR was present. Manager said I didn't meet expectations. I can do a PIP or just leave with a small severance. A bit disappointing because I was given basically no feedback and no chance to improve. I have mortgage to pay, wife works, but doesn't earn enough to support mortgage. Kids are in daycare... so expenses are high. ASK: Can I get a referral in corporate finance / tech finance? (I'll update the post with more questions as right now i'm rushed with adrenaline) Smaller details: - UPDATE: Feel free to DM me or ask me to DM you. I initially said I can't DM from this account, but I was able to fix the DM issue I had on my phone - Update 2: I called FMLA and it says I can take the leave BUT I'm not protected to job security since I haven't been in the company >1y. - Update 3: Just chatted w/ manager. He was in tears as he thinks I have the potential to deliver in this role, but the timing and market conditions are not in my favor. Mandate came from above and PIP plan would basically be betting against the house. I haven't decided, but I think I'll just bleed out the PIP. HELP!
Which company is this ? You can dm if u like.
I can only initiate 10 DMs a month... so I'd rather use these for referrals
How long is the PIP project? 1 month?
Youre at Amazon?
no
How much money do you actually need right now. If you have a lifestyle that requires $300K TC from you alone that’s different than $125K
I was laid off when my son was 1 month old while I was on paternity leave. I used 4 months of paternity leave, 1 month of severance, and 1 month of unemployment. Looking back, I’m so glad I spent those 6 months with my son to watch him grow and take care of my wife. I know it’s stressful without a job during this uncertain time, but focus on what’s most important right now, your family. You won’t have this time again
I wonder if I'm eligible for FMLA or whatever because I joined the company literally 5 days AFTER the baby was born
You have to be at a company a certain amount of time to be eligible for FMLA. If you joined recently, then prolly not
Contact a labor attorney, get a free consultation. Make sure you're not being retaliated/discriminated against Buying time is hard, idk if you qualify for FMLA bc of short tenure. Schedule a bunch of dr appointments now and cancel your daycare contract for next month. If you see an open position at Walmart (e-commerce/Walmart connect is still hiring a little I think)
I checked... I do qualify 🙏🙏🙏
File for that shit now. You don't get paid, but keep health benefits (I think)
You have 16 weeks of parental leave in addition to other Family Leave benefits. I'd strongly advise you to take them. FYI, I took 12 weeks parental leave at Snap before my 6 months anniversary, so you should be able to take it anytime. Start having some paper trails for your mental health. Having a newborn should be good enough to have some impact on your mental health. How long have you been at Snap? What's your level?
Very helpful. I left around July, am I still eligible to FMLA? I do have paper trails about my mental health. My health was terrible and I am still doing therapy. I was L6
My bad. I misread and thought you're still at Snap. Once you left the company, you're no longer qualified for any benefits. Depending on your new company policy, you may not qualify for parental leave without some tenure, but FMLA is something you can take immediately for taking care immediate relatives (spouse, parents, and even grandparents). I'd suggest you read over the benefits details (maybe without asking HR so that they won't know your plan). Check to see if the company has any mental benefits, take as much sick days as possible. You're allowed to care for your family and use sick days without too much proof. With your level, I can hook you up with some of the technical recruiters that helped me land few offers. I can DM you if needed.
If you need LinkedIn premium let me know, I can share free premium subscription which lasts for 6 months will be useful for your job hunt
that would be helpful... I could use some referrals too if you don't mind :-) is that ok as well? I can find specific roles ofc
As of now Li is on hiring freeze. :/
DM for Atlassian
I thought Atlassian is on hiring freeze. I went through the onsites and recruiter told me she doesn't have any timeline for feedback 🤦🏻♂️
We are but only temporarily. We're doing a large reorg to refocus on our new company OKRs. During this time we've frozen hiring but this should be done before Christmas and hiring should resume back to normal by the new year. In the mean time we are still interviewing people
Fmla should pause pip. But that doesn’t protect against layoff. Layoff might give better severance than pip/perf based fire, looks better on resume as well
Are you on a Visa ?
no
So you dont have enough savings to last you for few months till you find your job. I saw you got a mortgage Also relax the market is not that bad and you will find something
