I’m specifically curious about Airbnb; I’m reaching out to different current employees to throw me a bone. But I’m asking because the experience with my own referrals for friends and family (about 6 of them) all flopped: no interview, no recruiter contact, just rejection. USAA at least over the last decade has been more hire-from-within so I understand that. The main use from what I see is the referral bonus, yet it doesn’t seem to affect the selection process. Is it just me? TC 250K
I think it increases the chances a recruiter will look at your resume. But from then on the hiring manager won’t care much unless they happen to be close to the referrer and know they hold a high bar
I think it also depends on the role. I referred someone for a role and they were interviewed within 3 days. It was pretty insane. They made it the next stage but not deemed to be the right fit. I was really impressed with what seemed to be a fast track. I referred someone else for a different role and thought that person looked perfect. Crickets.
No. It's just the market. I have had my friends refer me (not Airbnb) but didn't make a difference. However brand names do matter. If you work at FAANG, it seems to make a difference.
