After living in Bay Area for 8+ years moved to Bangalore for family reasons. It’s been over a year and I am starting to regret it. Posting this as I see many posts talking about 1cr+ salary, Indias decade etc. This is Bangalore specific post. 1. Waste water management is a joke. Same toxic water makes way to river and in turn to our vegetables and fruits. 2. Recent govt is doling out money with freebies and infra work has come to standstill. Our area still does not have drinking water supply and we rely on water tanker. These tankers drain the water tables dry and most of them are illegal and controlled by local leaders. 3. Pretty high road rage. In case the car touches another vehicle then easily 2-3 hours of time is wasted fighting it out. My wife who would drive comfortably in US hardly ventures out. Yes metro exists, Uber ola exists but last mile connectivity is bad, parking near metro is bad, lot of friction with cabs. 4. Just a walk around the neighborhood is stressful - pollution, honking, street dogs etc. 5. I assumed I could visit my family in another state stylist once a month. But after spending 2 hours traveling to airport, I see that flights get delayed lot of times. So quite stressful to travel regularly. Of course there are lot of advantages like high savings, great community (Bangaloreans are lovely and welcoming in my experience), activities etc. But wanted to share the other side too as what’s the point of wealth if there is no quality food, air and lifestyle. TC: 1cr+ YOE: 13+
You created a username to just post stupid comments like these..
Yeah.. go ahead and thank him.. he will share his US experience.. (read how amazing it is) and inspire more Rajeshes to come here.
Op - move to Pune or Hyderabad and live in a luxury gated community close to work place and kids school. 75% of your issues would get resolved instantly. - most high end gated communities have water softener plants and some even have RO plants. - emerging supply of organic grocery stores - with your TC, hire a full time Chauffer and you don’t have to deal with traffic. Proximity to work place and kids school reduces commute times.
Any specific gated communities you would suggest in Pune?
Yes please suggest a luxury gated community
I am sure people warned you about the problems that you’ve written here. Urban planning is a joke in India. It’s at best an afterthought for most politicians. No amount of GDP growth will improve things unless some politician actually wants to improve the urban infrastructure. It won’t happen organically.
Did you not know all of these issues before you moved ?
Everyone knows but they all have rose colored glasses from their childhood. Feels like it was a simpler time with family, friends, etc. And they visit India and can neglect these issues because they’re on vacation. Things change when you actually have to face the lifestyle on a long-term basis.
Ya. Move to Bangalore if you have family there or else Infra is not good enough for a Modern City It’s only get worse because they keep adding more companies to an already dense place
We know. There’s a reason very few people go back
The reason most people don’t go back is because they’re IT people who won’t get 15LPA in India
Okay 👍🏼
Hope you speak Kannada.
Why not learn it if you are gonna live there long term?
Why not learn the American way of life if you plan to live here long term? Why speak Kannada in USA office?
Finally someone who I can relate. Everything you mentioned, I face every time I go to India. I hardly venture out during my stay there. Even taking a Uber/ola and sitting and watching the chaotic traffic makes me get irritated. Every time I go there , I miss San Diego 🥲
SD is my vision of heaven on earth.
Ppl have no problem when they grow up, study and work in India, but start doing all this drama after going abroad. If you don't like India, go abroad. Desh drohi
It’s not drama. They are used to a much better lifestyle. IYKYK
At least for me, I desperately wanted to get out of my place after I finished my schooling in India. US was a dream for me, and still one and I am very grateful for being here. India for the most part doesn’t work for me and I am simply my best version here. Otherwise I don’t hate India. My birth place pr country can’t determine how I want to live. I can chose to live abroad and still be respectful about my homeland. If I still be labeled as Desh Drohi lol, then myself and other Indians who moved abroad here and settled here and proud to be one
Bro you’re in Bangalore. Wat was u thinkin
"was"?
Bangalore is where the jobs and high 1cr+ salaries are. The same way the Bay Area & NYC are where they are in the US.
