So I had passed the admission for Harvard CSE masters program but took Google offer as L4 instead. I have CS undergrad degree from UC Berkeley though. Did I make a mistake here? YOE after undergrad: 4 TC: 310k
Google L4 is a lowly job, aim higher
FDLe75 didn't go to either of them.
I went to Berkeley for undergrad. Please read 🙄
You know what you did, you know you can't change that, learn to live with your mistakes.
Think about what would you have done after the Masters. Would that answer be any different from what you can do now? I think we both know the answer. So relax and watch some Netflix / play sports / read a book / go on a date / whatever you do on the weekend.
I would have probably done the exact same thing, which is to apply and take L4 offer after masters. Only diff will be that my resume qualification will have 2 years less industry experiences but with Harvard name,, for potentially founding a startup later..?
You can still start up. I don’t think VCs would look at Berkeley + Google very different than a Berkeley + Harvard + Google (?). If you really feel they do, plug that gap with the co-founders (assuming you think it’s late or tedious to pursue studies again yourself) ;)
This is the right choice. You'll be making just as much as people with masters. I say this as someone with a masters. The only exception is if you want to go into R&D. Again. I say this as someone one who has done R&D. It's not uncommon for people to work in the private industry and then go back to grad school and beyond.
OP is from berkeley if he/ she wants to pursue a research path AMP lab is an available option
CS masters is mostly useless unless you want to specialize in some field like ML. Or if you need a work visa.
The only reason people go to Google is prestige, but Harvard blows Google out of the water in terms of prestige and is actually selective.
Harvard College yes, masters no.

You should’ve been an NFL player you’d make 700k first year
