I’m planning to relocate to Dallas from Seattle but little worried about job opportunities in Dallas. I’m currently fully remote but my future job opportunities might be limited considering there are fewer companies in Dallas. Also, it seems new companies are moving to Austin mostly and it seems not many new companies coming to Dallas. Also, I’ll take a 10% cut in my salary when I relocate. 1. How does the future of Dallas look in terms of job opportunities? 2. Will the home prices hold strong if hybrid work takes over remote work in near future? 3. Also, many newer affordable good homes are available outside of city (Prosper, Celina, Justin etc). Is it wise to buy home that far or wait/compromise certain home features to buy closer to city center? 4. Only affordable place seems to be Lewisville buy many say that schools are not good. Any suggestions on this area? Ps: I’m planning to move away from Seattle as my family is experiencing allergies with Seattle weather. TC: 200k #housing #Dallas #Frisco #jobs
You will be fine in Dallas. Note: Texas has more Fortune 500 companies HQed there than any other state. And the companies keep moving there because they are business friendly. Check out Frisco and McKinney which are nice. Prosper is great and home values are increasing there because all the building is happening there. Schools are best in Frisco. Also, you have to realize how much more massive Dallas MetroPlex is than Seattle. Edit: As noted above prepare for the massive Texas culture shock. I didn’t mind it when I lived there but have lived all over the US and am adaptable.
“Texas has more Fortune 500 companies HQed there”. This is actually inaccurate. NY and Cali have the most F500 companies. Texas is 3rd. Even if this was accurate how helpful will this be to op since Texas is such a huge state it’s not like they can live in Dallas then commute to Houston.
I am happy for you! You will like it
There so many companies working for airline and supply chain industries in Dallas, you will be fine.
Austin has better weather too
many great events fun too
If you are moving for allergies have you looked into allergens in TX? Lots and lots of allergens in central and north Texas so hopefully you have done some research on what will work for you.
Yes, I heard of them. It’s a tricky situation but they did not trigger in us when we lived there 5 years back
I lived in Dallas for 5 years and had really bad allergies in the last three years.
Yes, I heard we have allergies in Dallas and Austin as well. Hopefully you overcome them
I work out of Plano/Frisco. There's a LOT of great companies moving there. It's basically Austin but more vast in terms of experiences. The housing prices are going to increase. The standard 3 bedroom 2 bath house in Plano area is over $600k. That's... a lot. It's only increased since I first looked (April) and most recently looked (early Nov). It's wise to buy a home outside of the city. It'll be cheaper and there's TONS of communities sprouting up around the area. Lewisville is a strange place. There's not much there tbh. I pass through it on my way to and from the airport. If you're looking for quiet, it fits. If you're looking for literally anything else, it'll be a drive.
Can you suggest affordable place to look for housing for families with kids.
There's not much lol. Depending on how you define "Affordable" For me, it's a mortgage that costs under 1/4 my take home pay with food and expenses being under half my take home. I can't find that in Texas. So, an affordable place to look for housing, is basically get an apartment in Plano/Frisco/The Colony.

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
I can't stand Texas as a state. This is not a political thing; I just can't stand how backwards some of the things they do are. Not all, of course. But mainly, it's hella hot in Texas.
Can you please elaborate?
Don't listen. Texas is a great state. Haters gonna hate 🤷♂️
