Remote I-9 Verification at Amazon

I will be starting at Amazon in next couple weeks. The recruiter had mentioned that he is checking the possibility of remote onboarding. Not sure how I-9 verification works in this case - since USCIS has mentioned in its website that the employee should be present with the employer or employer agent physically to verify the documents. Anyone recently onboarded to Amazon or other FAANG companies remotely, and if yes what was the process like for I-9 Verification? TIA. #remotehire #onboarding

Do you think it is wise to join Amazon given recent economic turmoil? If there are layoffs, new hires are first to go.

But what if you don't have any other better offers? I am gonna joins Amazon soon since my other offers are from start ups (engineering team of around 30) .

I would say the probability of layoffs would be less for AWS in this turmoil..

Yeah. My company hired the legal company that did my h1b transfer to do my i9. Had to go to the legal office, submit my passport and i797 or approval notice and fill the form. Pretty standard

Yeah, I joined Twitter(Seattle) last week and we have a remote 2 weeks new hire orientation going on. For the I-9 we had to get the form notarised, get it checked with HR online and if it was all good, send it over by overnight fedex to the Twitter head office. The process went okay, other than the UPS notary guy not knowing anything at all and I had to tell him how to fill in the fields that Twitter required, which wasted an hour of mine. Also, going out to the UPS office in Seattle was scary considering the virus situation.
