Remote and leveling at netflix

Seems netflix is pretty good about fully remote positions (I saw a netflix manager on linkedin saying that netflix is committed to remote), and I'm considering applying. I work at a trading shop. What is the YOE requirement for L5? Do these levels map to the corresponding levels in FAANG? Also what is the compensation range for L4, L5, L6 at Netflix? Netflix doesn't look accurate PhD + 3 YOE TC: 550k

Levels roughly match other FAANG companies. Most teams are remote friendly. Comp ranges are wide per level

Ah I see, thanks. I saw someone get a 700k L5 offer (this guy had 11-15 YOE though), which is like a staff level (L6) offer at other places.

Netflix Trump ‘24 Apr 5

That’s probably fake. 700K is too high for L5 unless they’re in ML

What’s the culture like at Netflix? Is it like Meta?

Netflix NFDexter Apr 5

Yes levels are a bit off, lots of L5s will be L6s in other FAANGs . This is mainly because levels were introduced just 2 yrs back and so it will take time to normalize

Ah right I forgot levels are a new thing to Netflix. How is comp decided? e.g., at FAANG, the band for each level is quite small, so knowing the level and you'll know your TC +/- 10% or so. At Netflix, with the band so wide, how do they determine?

Netflix NFDexter Apr 5

So the Band is wide only for existing employees, they are kind of grandfathered in and so it appears as if the band is wide when looking into levels.fyi. If you are a new employee joining today, your salary band is kind of similar to other FAANGs .. for new employees L5s maxes out at 580 to 590.

To those at Netflix, is levels.fyi pretty accurate since levels were introduced?

Netflix dorkey Apr 5

Looks very inaccurate for existing employees.

T-Mobile 5Gee Apr 5

Good to know. I assume it's inaccurate on the high side?

Google zOKe30 Apr 5

Netflix levels are huge bands compared to other companies. Very few L6 roles, and plenty of L5s at Netflix make 600+ and would be L6 elsewhere.

Netflix dorkey Apr 5

We've hired E5s with 4+ YOE. You have a chance I'm E5, 12 YOE, $750k TC

Holy cow. For those with just 4 years, what type of background and experience did they have to be considered. I’m at 7 years experience but work in traditional big banks and have hit a ceiling. Nothing exciting or groundbreaking and staying will be a detriment to my career (which I started when I was in my mid 30s)

Ugh… Netflix is the N in FAANG! 🤦‍♂️
