I’m torn right now. I have an amazing role here at LinkedIn and I’ve just been offered a remote role where I can live wherever and make the same amount of money. The new company has a great package and also a great mission and reputation. What would you do and any words of advice in trying to make this decision?
Anywhere in the world or anywhere in the US?
Anywhere
I think you can ask yourself do you really feel happy for your current job first.
If I say the company it could give it away to my team - and I’m not 💯 ready to announce
Depends on what you want next in your career. You want to move up more rapidly and/or head into management? Stay with LinkedIn. Just want the freedom to be wherever you want and still get paid well? Go remote. My vote would be remote, you don’t get that chance very often.
Sorry for sounding like an idiot, but how does health insurance and other stuffs work? If linked in is matching your 401k, then would that still be the case in new company? May be the other benefits , which you aren't counting today may not be accessible anymore ( it is possible that they don't matter anymore - for example if you move to a country where there is not much of insurance other than public, then it isn't relevant ).
If you’re ok with not being in an office regularly, etc., and have family elsewhere or even think you might want to move eventually, do remote. From first hand experience... you can live like a king in other parts of the US or even SoCal with Bay Area salary and benefits. Like someone else said though, you might not have the same opportunities to move up because if you’re not present those opportunities might not arise. What’s holding you back from taking it?
The exact thing you mentioned.
Leave LinkedIn. Remote for same pay? Winnnnerrr!
Curious what type of role Development, SRE/Sysops, QA ?
One thing I have learned in this business, and a hard lesson to learn: never leave a job you are happy in. For anything. Period.
