I'll explain the situation that I'm in, which I don't think is uncommon. I am a new grad who got a return offer from AWS during the summer. Since I didn't have any other leads at the time, I decided to accept the offer preemptively before the deadline. However, shortly after, my dream company reached out to interview me. Even though I already accepted the AWS offer, I decided to take the opportunity anyways since it is my dream company. I now have an offer from said company and I really want to take the offer. However, I have some fears about reneging which may or may not be irrational (Company B finding out about Amazon and rescinding offer) so I'm wondering what the best course of action I should take is. Should I accept company B, clear background check with them, then renege? Or should I renege Amazon, then accept company B? I am still about 8 months out from the start date at Amazon if that is important. Renege Then Accept: - If I renege Amazon first, will they cooperate with my former employment references for my background check? Accept Then Renege: - If I accept before reneging, could Hireright (background check company) find out that I held two offers at a time? Again, these worries may or may not be irrational but I just want to be sure so I don't end up with no job lol. Thanks for your help! Amazon Offer: 170k Company B: 210k #tech #amazon
Need third poll option for "You're massively overthinking this"
Yea probably
True. And it's a common situation
Yes
If your dream job is G, maybe accept G before reneging A. Don't inform the company you already accepted an offer from A. I've heard they may rescind your offer if you do. As per Hireright, they only verify the experience you write down. Just breathe and don't worry too much about it. Congratulations!
Thanks this is helpful
Also, hireright does not see how many offers you have/accepted/reneged. I had multiple these few months and none of that ever came up.
Clear background check, accept new offer and then renege Amazon. No one will care since you're a new grad.
How likely is it that they'd care after two years of experience?
They won't. I quit Amazon without a 2 week notice and my sister team's manager DMed me on LinkedIn to come to his team.
