Renegotiate with Qualcomm
Accepted a hw role with Qualcomm with joining next week. Recruiter after asking 100 times kept confirming as long as I join before Aug 20, I will have Aug 20 as the grant date but I just found out that is not true. August hires will have Nov 20 as grant. That is 3 months of no RSUs!! Can someone confirm if they have renegotiated so close to joining and succeeded? Also if I should even bring it up, this has a poll below! Thanks! What is your concern if you get RSU 3 months later?
Qualcomm vests RSUs on grant date not hire date. Which means if I join on 8/8, even though it’s a 3 year vesting period, it becomes 3 years 3 months for me
From a tax perspective it won't matter, it will all be in the same year. If you plan to leave it might affect your leave date by 3 months, but yearly RSU always vests on Nov 20 and the Yearly bonus is in the first paycheck in December. It would be wise to not leave until first paycheck in December. Remember this when you switch and you will be fine.
Postpone your join date to Nov 19th so you dont lose rsu but no pay for 3 months.. which one is better?

You don’t have option to negotiate now.. only option is to postpone your joining date.. but if you have high base in qc you are losing it out..

Ah, that sucks. Some more bad news, you won’t be eligible for this year’s annual bonus and rsu as well. I think the cut off was the beginning of July I guess. But, this would give you more time to ramp up and have meaningful work to show by the next year’s review process which could lead to higher bonus next year.

How long did it take you to get your actual offer? The recruiter I’m working with has been terrible. Hiring manager has been helpful but the process has been taking way too long IMO

So, your last 1/6th RSU will vest in November 2023 as opposed to Aug 2023. There won’t be any impact on your annual compensation. You still get 36 months of $x RSUs. I don’t understand the issue.
36 months from Nov not from Aug which is when I join.
Its still the same amount of money in the same calendar years. It does not make a material difference unless you decide to leave before the stocks vest. Even then 1/6th of a one time grant is probably negligible compared to the refreshers you would miss out on exile leaving.

Yea recruiter f’ed me over. He kept saying anytime before Aug 20 will be Aug 20 grant which is not true
