This is trash by AT&T. The news hyped up the outage so much when it wasn't even that big(to hide other stories). Now they are breaking all the rules that they have agreed upon with union leaders. They can not make over time mandatory within a 48hr notice, has to be prior to the 48hrs, right? No in the ATT leadership view. My theory is, the news blew this whole outage of proportion, then FCC or whichever group assigned said emergency money to ATT, which makes ATT having to spend said money on emergency. They don't have anywhere to spend this money except by making their virtual call center reps nationwide work 4hrs mandatory overtime on their schedule off day, which for all of us is always Sunday. If someone doesn't work it, they're going to be pointed on attendance. Management said ATT notified the Union prior to us, but when we contact the Union, they tell us that they told ATT it was violation of contract, but ATT proceeded anyways with this choice. The Union said it's a situation that we work now, grieve it later.... This might be me venting, but it affects people's live. People that are off today aren't able to be notified and people that are on vacation are not returning to work early either, but will be pointed, which can lead to discipline, among other things. The mandatory overtime had no official email for it, it was simply told to us by management, however there was a mass email saying there was voluntary overtime. We just have to put up with misinformation at every corner we turn with ATT. WE ARE UNABLE TO TRUST ATT!!!! GET IT TOGETHER!!! #tech #att
What is the story with the outage? Is it the same with Cricket?
TLDR
Everyone already knows the sky is blue
Ah, yes. This has all the components of a true American story. Greed, corporate corruption, misappropriation of funds, stupidity, and exploitation of workers without any regard. As American as apple pie.
God forbid the company trying to do right by the customer. Understand the frustration from losing time off, but there is a reason and itās the customer experience that they are trying to fix after last week.
Work at AT&T, can attest upper-management are total morons. What isnāt talked about on here enough (or elsewhere) is the endless layoffs the company has been performing. The RTO initiative has cut a ton of SMEās that didnāt want to move to Dallas or Atlanta (RTO at AT&T involves forced relocation, not just going into the office) Execs at this company are the most incompetent morons Iāve ever seen at any company Iāve ever worked at in my entire life. One of the execs - Ward - recently when asked about RTO vs data on productivity said āI donāt care what the data saysā to give some insight. This is the same group of morons who purchased DTV and Warner then proceeded to run the company into billions of dollars in debt. When asked about this place, I usually respond āIām honestly amazed you have cell phone service ever, at allā This is not a company you want to work for, the pay is OK (if you donāt live in a city), but youāre in constant fear for your job. The way projects are kicked off and funded is a total mess and you can be on a āhigh visibilityā project for 6 months and on a whim they will cut the funding or some new manager decides it isnāt a priority (Itās very rare for management to be technical). The only reason I stayed at T was due to the fact that they let me live in a LCOL area and collect a decent check, but when Iām forced to relocate, Iām going to bounce. No point in putting up with the BS if I have to live in a city anyways. Go with T-Mobile if you have to work in telecom. Software Dev TC: 172k TLDR: company sucks, management sucks, donāt work here.
Cry us a river. Software engineers have to work overtime with no extra pay anyway. Do it if you like it or find another job š¤·
Would rather be able to go to church and not be a workaholic.
