Hi everyone, I recently joined a high growth tech startup (restaurant tech) a few months back, after leaving a stable SaaS company, for better pay and challenging projects. I became too comfortable in my old role and was not excited with what I was doing. My new role has given me ambiguous projects, very less collaboration, ok work hours and in general a very cut throat culture. Before joining this company, I was talking to Shopify for a role, which did not work out at that time (couldn't match my expectations), but now they have come back with a better role and package. Old TC - 120k base + 30k Variable Current TC - 170k base + 70k variable + 200k equity privately listed (4 years) Shopify offer - 185k base + 350k equity (3 years) Considering the better culture and wlb, and similar overall TC ,does it make sense to jump ship so soon ? I may sound greedy, but I do believe in the upside of the current company's equity in the long term, but I also know that it's going to be a tough ride.
Can you share YoE and Shopify offer level?
Thank you for your responses. I should have added earlier, this is for a business leadership role. Also, I am in Canada so the benchmarks could be different. The base I mentioned was in CAD and equity was in USD. YOE- 13+
It’s a great offer for Canada, also a good time to get your grant
Was this for a senior SWE role at Shopify? That’s pretty good TBH. It looks like they’re finally addressing the poor pay gap offers compared to rest of industry. I would honestly take it if you’re looking for more stability. I’m sorry but restaurant tech sounds like a challenging market to be in. Unless you’re passionate about its upside and the food industry, I would dip for something safer. If you have more questions about Shopify, feel free to DM.
That’s gotta be staff level
If that’s staff then that’s lowball 4sure
