Requirements for banking analyst position

Do you need an economics/finance degree for these types of positions? Could you do it with a degree in engineering? I'm hoping to transition into this type of role, what are some things I should prepare? If anyone knows what the interview process is like compared to SWE interview processes that would be great!

You can do it with any educational background, although English and philosophy major with minor in accounting and CS from Ivy League is ideal. That is, unless you are applying to elite boutiques like Evercore and Lazard, then you really need to know DCF like the back of your hand and have prior work/internship experience. Make sure you partied hard with the popped collar kids. The only real requirement is ability to survive 70-80/week for 3-6 years at the bottom of high finance culture's totem pole. Can you convince the interviewer that you're good to chill at 2am with beers, and that you won't hop to buyside like the vast majority of pre-VP bankers?

The short answer is yes. When I was in the markets, guy next to me studied Latin, the other Spanish, I had done politics. 10 years ago on a trading floor, no one had even been to university However banking analyst is as vague as work in tech Do you want to be an analyst the job? (analyse companies) an investment banking analyst? Buy or sell side? That's what you need to figure now. My recommendation is to go at an asset manager as your engineering background will be valued (everyone needs to code), it pays very well and best work life balance of the industry

Dude. Banking was the hot shit pre 2008. Nowadays, nobody really wants to do that shit anymore as talent from top schools flock to silicon valley. Banks are more desperate than before to hire, so I recon the standards for hiring has probably gone down. As long as you're willing to slave away like a mindless drone for 2 years, you're golden
