I am on short term disability leave for last 3 months. I have my STD leave approved for one more month. I am thinking to resign from my position at the end of this month. Are there any consequences if I resign while I am on STD leave? Is there any chance I might need to return any portion of the pay/benefits I received during this time? The main reasons I am thinking to resign: - My career/growth at google is stuck. I joined google more than 4 years back as an L4 SWE and I am still an L4 SWE. My recent perfs are also not good. My last 3 perf ratings are: CME/CME/NA. (NA is the latest rating). - My TC has become significantly lower compared to last year and I have just got an offer for Amazon SDE II/L5 with +35% bump in my current TC. (no bump in the level though) Also, does it sound like a good decision to move from Google L4 to Amazon SDE II? Current TC: ~300k YoE: 6 Location: Bay area, California Note: I am new to blind. I posted this in the Google channel earlier today, not sure if there is any way to change the channel. Reposting here to get more feedback especially regarding the short term disability questions. #short term disability #healthcare #insurance
You are leaving heaven because you got an std ?
I am not leaving because I am on STD leave, because of the reasons I mentioned.
CME is not a good rating. Just ok. Probably you will be marked as non-regrettable but why does it matter for you if you didn’t like it there?
Can you come back in the future if you’re marked as non-regrettable? Would you have to do a full interview loop?
At Meta you need to wait a few years. At Google I believe it was more strict where recruiters stop working with you when they see you were non-regrettable. It might be a policy or they are just trying to optimize their time.
@op if you got a okish rating in Google, unsure if Amazon would be any different, I mean I am not sure if google has tough rating compared to others, if not, amazon may just use you as pip fodder. Suggest to get a role from other company than Amazon, it is desperate to hire people but has very bad rap coz of PIP. Good luck.
Sometimes the team, politics, or product doesn’t click. Might have better luck elsewhere
If you could not swallow G pill, Amazon will cut you open.
How did you get an NA the last cycle? I thought the last perf cycle wasn’t optional. I’d try switching teams instead. The next promo at G might get you more than what you’d be getting at Amazon now (not discounting the wlb issue at Amazon).
I switched team back in NOV and went for a long vacation during DEC/JAN/FEB. That's why got an N/A.
With my current ratings and the recent changes (grad, hiring slowdown, etc.), I think it might be hard to switch teams. Also, I think in my current situation, next promo at G will take at least 2 years or more even if I work very hard from now.
Google is heaven compared to amazon.
Switch teams at google?
I have not tried to switch teams, but in my current situation - recent ratings and the recent changes (grad, hiring slowdown, etc.), I think it might be hard to switch teams.
OP, any update here?

Could you explain CME, NA abbreviations? How many rating levels are there at G?
CME = Consistently meets expectatoins NA = Not Applicable There are mainly 5 ratings, CME is second from the below and considered as bad rating often. (N/A is not a trivial rating, given when someone is absent most of the time in a review cycle).
