Hi, I recently joined a company (not Pandora) but am not liking it and am planning to leave in couple of months. In my 1:1 with manager, I am usually very positive with him and tell him that everything is great. since, i am planning on leaving, whats a good way to start dropping hints that i am unhappy so that it doesnt come as a surprise. current TC: 330k YOE: 8 years #resign #offer
How is your manager supposed to try to make things better for you if you don’t communicate what’s not working for you to him?
Well.. what if the manager takes it like.. “why is this complaining so much” . I feel like it’s a double edged sword
Mention 5 genuine positive things you like and then mention one negative thing you want help with. See if he helps resolve it - proceed from there.
Leading up to your resignation day, randomly reply to you boss with "whatever". He or she will be ready.
Not bad
Whatever.
Tell unavoidable personal reason. Tell them a family problem if they ask what. They shouldn't dig into it further if they are decent and let you go.

I did this with my last job...the problem ended up being they said- well we will pay you to take 6 months, etc, whatever you need. When I didn’t take that offer they were a bit upset , but oh well. The job required 80% travel and I was losing my mind in hotel rooms
I'll give you a secret for manager speak. If you touch your elbows twice and use the word turtle five times during your 1:1, it'll give the manager a hint that you may be heading out. But make sure you don't say turtle six times because that means something totally different. In all honesty, since you're leaving pretty soon, there's really no way it's not going to be a surprise. Sometimes things just don't work out.
Hahah I will try to squeeze in some turtles in my convo 😬
If you constantly lie about how things are going, then of course they are going to be a little surprised. Just tell them you’re leaving to pursue a new opportunity and thank them for the experience you gained in this role. That’s the generic statement to use for a manager with whom you had no personal relationship and when you don’t want them to make changes or make a counter offer.
Don’t do it. I did it once and he told the CEO who tried to screw me out my bonus by laying me off 1 month before it was due. It wasn’t for performance reasons. My manager knew it too and couldn’t even look me in the eye on the last day. Never tell your manager your plans. He’s not your friend. He works for the company.
Dont drop any hints if you are on a H1B

It is a surprise no matter how you phrase it. If you just wanna leave then be polite and concise
