I am starting at Google in September as L3 but I already have 2 years of experience (including internships). Up until now, I was working in a small company where I had a lot of input on architecture, design, choice of tech, etc. I'm a bit worried I won't have a voice anymore and I will be back to square one. TC: 200k
You will have a voice but what you say doesn't matter. Your job as L3, L4 is code monkey unfortunately. If you are unlucky, you won't even write code, only Google docs about DeSigN and ArChiTeCTuRe.
That would be very depressing for me. Do you know ways to avoid falling into this?
Microsoft - no. Please don’t spout nonsense. It’s very much team and product dependent.
Whether you have a voice or not depends only on one thing - your manager. If you have a good manager even the junior person has a voice. If it’s a shit manager even the TL may have no voice
My manager seems nice so I'm hopeful, thanks for the answer
From one square to square one 😮💨
Write code.
when did you graduate?
2 years ago, why?
ok then you must have 2 yoe without internship?
You work your way up. Show me the code, show me your ability, then you can talk and gain responsibility. Does it not make sense?
Yeah it does, it's annoying to be back to that point though
you won't feel like that at Google there are tons of industry folks
It’s a big company so probably not as much voice. But back to square one??? You’ll have great wlb, tc and stability wdym
I already have great WLB. I'm just worried I will be micromanaged and won't have a say in architectural decision. Basically, I don't want to just be a code monkey
Meta talking about arranged marriages bc it’s his only hope!
