Hi all, I’m currently a senior applying for (Business related) Analyst roles across the business arena. Could someone review and give feedback on content and formatting of my generic resume? I’m also curious to how formatting and space allocation changes across BA, consulting, and finance roles. I’d really appreciate any feedback. Thank you!
Not to be a rude troll, but you look like you only accomplish tasks without driving outcomes. What results did you drive through your projects? What percent was the increase?
Makes sense. Should that be the case for every bullet point or just leading ones?
The verb-based bullet points are nice. Agree with Adobe. Try to frame the bullet points with more impact-oriented language. For example, you mentioned adding google analytics and Facebook insight. Did the reports inform any change? Did it save the company money? Shifted thematic goal based on that data? Or is it just sitting on the Google console with no follow up? I think you could also take a more focused approach for the role that you're applying to. Put the most relevant and proud role at the top. That's the item the recruiter will see first. Your interviewer is also likely ask questions on that first. Chronological order is less of a concern, especially since your experience is just over a year. On your extracurricular section, you have pretty interesting titles like "board member" and "Vice President". But again, zero insight into your impact. Is it just an inflated title or more? Save some space from the Skills section and expand more on your accomplishments. On that note, why don't Tableau or HTML/CSS have the qualifiers? Is it implied that you're an expert or amateur? Stay consistent with the other bullets and avoid unfavorable assumptions
Very nice feedback above. ....One thing though— I always thought chrono order was the standard...what would you recommend for someone who has held several Positions and yoe?
The reverse chronological order is the standard, yes. The advantage of sorting by relevance is that you get to highlight the impact to the recruiters' eyes as early as possible. I have been doing that (along with skipping irrelevant positions all together) and it has served me well. That said, you do run the risk of raising eyebrows by deviating from the norm. For example, some people use non-standard sorting to obscure an unemployed period. I don't think it'll be a problem for you since your positions are all within 2018-19. Use your own discretion
In terms of format, decrease the line char length. People glaze over sentences that are too long
Interesting. Ty
hahaha I know exactly who you are 😆
Is that so? 🙃
yeah you’re friends with my roommate
You don't have to highlight that you have basic/intermediate knowledge in your hard skills. You can be honest and show willingness to learn when prompted, but no need to give extra details if it can backfire. :)
It’s fine. I typically do summary -> skills -> experience -> education, but it’s not super important.
