Hi there, I got laid off last month and I'm looking for a new job in the IT Project/Program Management/PMO space with remote work. I already applied to 200+ roles but landed no interviews so far (permanent roles and contract roles as I already have my limited company). So I believe my CV is not picked up by ATS, I built it in Canva and it's nice to watch but it doesn't make any sense if it's not picked up. Long story short... I spent the last 5 years in the finance space working for family business in hedge funds in operations, marketing, compliance, some projects as well and before that I spent 10 years in multinational companies (like GE) as IT project/program manager/PMO and would like to go back to my area of expertise. I got some feedback on my CV from my previous HR who suggested me to remove those 5 years I spent in the finance space to give it a shot but that would probably hurt my CV to have 5 years with no experience shown. I can understand that people wouldn't understand why I'm leaving the finance space to come back to IT space and probably why recruiters are not reaching out. I'm more thinking about adjusting a little bit my past 5 years to focus more on project I have delivered during that time. I'm now looking for a good platform (like Rezi.ai or Kickresume) to make my new CV to be able to duplicate and adapt the CV based on the job title I'm applying for and would be best if it has a way to check if the CV match the job description. Do you know any that would work that way? Or should I go for MS Word (with ChatGPT to check if the CV match the job desc)? Does anyone know a good template to be used and complete enough to not forget anything inside? Thank you so much! YOE 15 Previous TC 60k (time to level up this number btw!)
Try resumeworded it will give you a score based on job description and your CV. You can also get your resume score without job description.
Just had a look, it looks interesting! Does the Pro version has a real added value as I find it quite steep? 😅
I never used paid version. I don’t have much to put on my CV lol
Refer the book 'The Tech resume inside out' by Gregory Orosz. It comes with some resume templates. I followed it and got many interview calls.
Thanks a lot for your recommendation, one quick question for you: does this book apply to project managers as well? I have been more working on SAP ERP projects rather than technical projects. Do you think that works too? Thanks a lot! 🙂
I had a look at it, very interesting! Is there any particular template you’re using? Thanks!
I can help you build customised snd ATS friendly resume , DM me
I would not cut out any work experience from mine if I were you I have 2 gaps in my career amounting to a decade, lol Even if the interviewer misses, I make it a point to tell -> bounced back! i love this field Human psychology, what's interesting is that a great mix accept and move on, and an equally great mix question Keep resume short DM me if you're interested in my company It definitely pays > your previous TC I've interviewed candidates internally for clients, I've seen worse resumes Some did have non-tech background and they still appeared for interviews
Thanks a lot for your suggestions and I agree with you, I would more rephrase my past 5 years experience to better match what I'm looking for. And if I cut it out, it would be the last 5 years so it's not a gap as such more like a 5 years AWOL 😅 My resume as of today is 2 pages long, my previous version was 1 page long and another HR recommended me to go longer and focus more on achievements for each experience. Based on your experience, it reinforces me that my CV is not properly caught by ATS, I really have to make my CV match job descriptions I believe. I'll have a look at your company, on top of your head, do they offer project management roles and remote friendly work (+ I'm based in the UK) as well?
I work totally remote Many here do And yes Project Management folks work remotely I keep my resume short. I have a ton to talk about. Forced myself to condense it to one page Achievement I will brag about in a short 1-liner goes into my resume That will make them want to ask me for more That said, these will help you think..,...., https://www.fastcompany.com/40424630/this-is-the-part-of-your-resume-that-recruiters-look-at-first?utm_source=pocket_mylist https://www.cnbc.com/2022/10/12/ive-helped-people-land-jobs-at-google-facebook-heres-the-resume-mistake-ive-been-seeing-lately.html?utm_source=pocket_mylist https://hbr.org/2020/09/how-to-get-your-resume-noticed-and-out-of-the-trash-bin?utm_source=pocket_mylist

Try Overleaf to make the CV. Also, take the HR advice on cutting the years out. I have done that and not a single time I have been questioned. In fact I just start with what I am doing in last 7-10 years. You can always add significant points from prior experience under the current job as a different section. Also highlight key technical skills right down to excel (macros, VBA, etc). All the best 👍🏻
Thanks a lot for your suggestions! I have just registered to Overleaf and as I made this post after reading a while about resume builder, does LaTeX is really a thing for CVs? About cutting the years out, I made that point as I'm French and we have always been told that it's not well received by recruiters, now I'm based in the UK, might a little different. However, I can definitely use these years and showcase some projects work even if it's a different domain. Thanks a lot again!! Appreciate your feedback! 🙂
Latex is just a scripting language, the end result will be in PDF, the control over formatting and templates are the key with overleaf.
