I recently learned that some of my colleagues received a retention bonus in my company. I didn't get any despite being top performer in the team (I receive highest yearly bonus % in the team). I figured, retention bonuses were given based on how likely the person will be leaving the company. I think, since I'm on work visa and locked in the position/ difficult to change the jobs easily, they didn't consider giving it to me. Can they do this ? isn't this discrimination ?
Yes they can do this. It’s not illegal. Their house their rules unless you have some leverage
Why don’t you threaten to leave then if you think you are so valuable
what's the point of threatening ? I'll just leave...
YESSSS sharpen your machete while they’re drinking the kool aid getting their buzz heavy. LC hard, get another offer from another company who can sponsor. That’s the final justice.
There's no discrimination in a meritocracy. And you just come off as whiney.
Sounds like you’re a legend in your own mind

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
No - it’s not illegal at all. If you don’t like it they can pull your visa - they hold all the cards, you don’t
