Just about 4 to 5 months here and I think Microsoft is not for me. Left Amazon after 10 years and wanted to try the new tech space. Unfortunately this place doesn't have the drive unlike other big tech companies. There is no single threaded owner and launch targets are a joke. The company is heavily competitor focused. I don't see them breaking new ground in tech to catch up with Amazon. Let alone Meta or Google. I am ok with the PIP factory over this retirement home. What I have realized is that titles roles or perks won't matter if you don't enjoy your work. Nothing new but just went through that experience. Do we need to return the full sign on bonus to MSFT or is it the after tax amount? Has anyone else done this? #microsoft #faang #tech
Its the full amount pre tax. The tax you will claim in the refund next year and msft will provide you amended w-2
With so much Yoe, arent you expected to change the processes for the better? Even with 5 yoe, i would try really hard to change whatever processes i can, before leaving an org. Discuss with managers on how to foster such a culture and promote it vigorously? Isn't this what we mean by leading by influence? Influence not just your peers or reportees, but also your managers?
OPs gonna go back to Amazon and do some “GROUND BREAKING”
Some companies are just too difficult to change. MS research does ground breaking stuff but their commercial products/teams have a terrible culture. Been there for a number of years under Ballmer and some friends told me that Satya is much better but that the culture is still meh.
Does Amazon give new sign on bonuses for boomerangs?
I don't know. I wish. At this point I have realized if you dont enjoy your work. Money doesn't matter.
Switch teams?
I'm guessing this is on an Azure/cloud team at Microsoft?
It is
Sounds like my division at VMware. There is a total lack of motivation. I'm also planning to return to AWS.
I’m bouncing after 10 months to Google for the same reasons. No one wants to get work done, everyone wants to nap during the day
What a cry baby!
If I don’t recall wrong to have to return a proportional amount, not the whole thing. So, if you are at month 6 it could be just 50% that they’ll take from your last paycheck and claim any extra just after you leave.
Microsoft is for retirees to get free money Not for people with drive
Well at the very least can you share the details when they extended your MS offer and level 😂😭 ?

You return the full amount and claim it back during tax filing .. Also I am trying to boomerang .. did you have a loop ? I am trying same level
What is boomerang?
@Lolluna. No if you try within 6 months. I was told there are no questions asked. Just your old role gets restored. You may have a mini loop if you changed orgs or teams
