I’m an intern at Microsoft right now fed up with college. COVID is probably going to force me to take online classes for the next school year and I don’t want to return. But I would like to work, as I am very aware that having an internship with a FAANG in this recession is extremely fortunate. I was hired as an intern from a university recruiting pipeline. Could I ask my recruiter for a FTE offer even if I don’t have a bachelors degree? Alternatively, would a code camp or an associates work or even a bachelors in something non-CS? I am a US citizen and don’t need employment sponsorship. #microsoft #faang #intern

How long until you finish and how good are you? Not sure about MS but at Google you can ask for conversion and I believe it's not contingent on you finishing school
If I go back to school, I’m looking at one to two more years. Zoom University just isn’t my thing.
It's going to be zoom job as well for 1 more year.
Sure you can but it's a silly decision depending on how far along you are. One more year to go = complete it. Maybe you could do both...get FTE offer and switch degree to part-time Can ask your immediate manager to see if he might consider offering
Hmm ok I will check with my manager. Should I mention this to my recruiter as well?
There’s a pretty significant chance you don’t get an offer if that’s the discussion you’re going to bring up.
You would have to really wow your team in order for that to happen. Thousands of interns every year and there are so many others that are willing to finish their degrees.
Buckle down and get it done, you’re placing a ceiling on your career that’s going to make it more difficult to obtain jobs and promotions for the rest of your career. Being scared to fail is a terrible reason to drop out.
BillG did OK at MIcrosoft without a degree
Lol?
Sure... Bill Gates
I was hired FTE without a college degree but with significant work experience. I think it’s going to be difficult to convert without a degree... better off taking a leave of absence from school for a year if you’re determined not to attend right now and then picking up where you left off.
Conversion to FTE without a degree is close to impossible. Not necessarily because you aren't capable but more because they don't want to encourage people dropping out of school to convert(I'd venture to say most FAANG+ interns would rather keep working than complete their degree). They've got the stability and the resources to wait until you finish school, even if they really want you. At a smaller company you'd have a better chance of pulling that off than at Microsoft.
First of all, Microsoft is not FAANG lmao Second of all, stay in school. You're not a special snowflake that they'll extend an offer to with no degree.
Finish school kid! U aren’t Steve Jobs.
