Got an offer from Rippling for Senior SWE, and an offer from MSFT also for Senior SWE L63. Which one should I take? Rippling, $500K TC, $250K base rest is paper money Microsoft, $300K TC, $205K base, 15-20% bonus, rest is public stock. Which one should I take? Rippling offer seems better, but blind reviews are horrendous and WLB is apparently really bad. I really don't want to get fired before 1 year which is common at Rippling per the reviews. TC: $260K 6 YOE
Rippling’s $11b valuation is a bit frothy but they raised mid 2022 so it’s probably not as egregious as most other peer startups The comp is significantly higher but I’ve heard (from ex amzn people) that the work culture is absolute trash. I’d still probably take it over msft if you’re willing to grind
I voted Microsoft. OP:; please, work. On , your . punctuations.
MS paying almost $260K in stocks over 4 years for L63 is surprising! Take the MS offer!
Don't think there is any need to join for 40K more. I would stay where you are well established or go to rippling. If you join msft, you might see yourself laid off in a year, our finance folks aren't the best at their jobs.
I’d go Rippling, the base matches your current TC anyway. If things look good in a year, stay, if anything turns ugly, just find something else. It’s like a free lottery ticket.
They throw 9B valuation RSU offers to new hires with 1 year cliff. Many will be let go between 9-12 months in the name of performance. So only the base counts. Even you survive one year, do you believe in 70-100x PS valuation? Many public SAS companies are less than 10x now. The CEO explicitly said maintaining the same level of HC in 2023, and it seems we are still hiring a lot, which means we will fire a lot as well. Good deal to pay 250k base to consume senior level engineers. Oh, forget to mention WLB and sync with overseas teams at night all the time, shit tier benefits etc. After reading all the comments and reviews on blind, still think you are super strong mentally and physically to try your luck with Ripping? Make sure you are better than our previous CTO, ex Amazon VP technically and politically, as he was fired in about 8 months. Not sure if he collected his RSU/options and had to pay back sign on bonuses. I wish someone tell me these things honestly when I joined.
Agree with all of this. Rippling’s motto is “run hard,” which is code for burning people out. The longest PIP I’ve ever heard from Rippling is 3 weeks. You can’t assume you’ll make it a year to receive your stock. Even if you do, I don’t know when it could possibly become liquid. Rippling’s cash burn and negative margins are scary and I don’t think the company can ever overturn them.
Also the codebase is a big dump. You will spend most of your time fixing issues with the existing codebase but your ramp up will be on how many new features you can rollout.
OP does rippling allow remote?
take both... just in case you get fired/laid off from one
Where are you in your career development plan? Based on that decide what’s important to you.
I am ok with worse WLB, but getting fired before 1 year and possibility that paper money never materializes seems risky
