Risks on joining Startups for visa holders

I am currently close to getting an offer from a startup. I like the product that they are developing and I have always wanted working wearing different hats which I think I won’t get doing on say F/G. Assuming meeting all expectations from the position and companies sponsoring work visa, I know it’s much more safer to secure residency/long term with FAANG companies. What are the things to watch out for before joining startups and wouldn’t it be insulting to ask during interviews with startups like how do they see themselves in the long run?

Any startup will have non-trivial probability of shuttering and laying people off. If you are not comfortable with that risk then shouldn’t consider startups. No one can truly predict internally/externally how things will shake out.

Join a start up that’s promising and growing fast. I feel like the risk is lower than many large companies. With start ups, you know their runway, so you can tell far in advance whether there’s going to be layoffs or not. With large companies, especially non fangs, lays offs can happen any time and you won’t have a clue or when.
