Considering buying both Robinhood (@ $18.94) and Slack (@ $29.51) pre-IPO stock.

Any feedback on the stock prices? Good value? Too expensive? Too late to purchase these stocks? TIA

@qUyB01 it depends. A registered broker dealer, like microventures will likely ask for documentation. Others don't. But all will have you sign legal documents attesting that you meet the accreditation qualifications.
There's some risk in them not asking for proof, but it seems like it'd only be an issue if a non accredited investor puts money in, loses their investment, and sues saying they "didnt understand what they were investing in".Which they'd have to be an idiot to do because it would mean admitting to fraud (or whatever the legal term is for lying on a legal document)

Makes sense thanks. Am sure this depends from company to company but are the securities fairly liquid?

I’m personally willing to short slack’s stock at anytime at any value with any leverage

As anti spam said, enterprise is all about who can sell better. And no one can sell better to enterprise than MICROSOFT. Unless SLACK can differentiate tremendously MICROSOFT will eat their lunch.

    • MS is not even selling .. they are just bundling .. doesn’t mean it is being used.

@OP: which pre-IPO so far you invested through equityzen, and how much each investment was? If any of those went to IPO, how much return it was comparing the IPO price to your investment?

Never thought of pre-IPO investment. But even if one sales on first day, it’s easy money!

I’ve bought Nextdoor previously. Haven’t been able to liquidate anything yet, so don’t have ROI info to share. First time investors can get in with $10K

That’s one reason a lot of people don’t use EquityZen for super late stage companies - IPOs will dilute your value already. Also you won’t get shares until lockup, and by then it could tank to half value. So in the case of Slack, you might as well wait for lockup to buy it on the public markets if you really wanted the stock.

Pass on Slack. Massive companies in the Office ecosystem are moving to Teams.

Why does OP ask a question, but when people respond back and ask for more information they disappear?

Because the OP is asking the question for experts with experience to respond. Not noobs who ask ignorant questions trying to fish for info or show off - best to ignore these.

Too late? No. IPO is the beginning of the journey, not the end. Good deal is the real question.

Don't know about Robinhood, but Slack at 30-a-pop seems expensive.

EquityZen offered Slack a while ago for $13, at an implied valuation of $7.7B. At $30 a share, you're giving it a market cap of $18B, which seems over and above the higher end of their range.

The stock may still pop on listing, so you may end up with a good deal nevertheless, but I'd be surprised if you see a significant upside.

Note also that EZ charges a 5% commission.

Slack comes with a 6 month lock in so hopefully it’ll retain it’s value beyond that period.. the multiples are crazy already so feeling a bit unsure

    • Now add zoom to that suite and it gets even more productive ! I heard you got rid of webex for zoom ?

    • Hmm .. Don’t care. This integration would probably also suck like the other features. Anyways teams actual usage is negligible .. MS just claims big numbers after bundling.
