A 32 year old clinically depressed loser who wants to revamp his life.

Hello everyone, I'm a 32 year old loser whose networth is just 150k (mostly due to Amazon stock appreciation). I work in a non tech job and my TC is 145k. I've been stagnant in this same role for 5.5 years in Amazon. I've had opportunities to progress, but my depression and procrastination made sure that I never latched on to any opportunities. I bought 15 Tesla stocks when it was $250 a piece and sold them when they were $400. Thought of investing in bitcoin when it was $120, but hesitated and missed out. All my investment plays turned out bad (mostly due to FOMO plays and unstable decisions). #depression #mentalhealth #depression #mentalhealth After I had suicidal tendencies in the lockdown, I decided to get help. I was diagnosed with clinical depression in August but I stopped seeing my doctor after 2 visits. Just don't feel like doing anything. My friends all got married, bought houses and have kids while I was sitting depressed and jealous. I'd stopped responding to all my friends and spent a lonely life in this quarantine all of 2020. Amazon is definitely not too blame because my manager has been really patient and has helped me a lot through my tough times. In the last 2 weeks I've felt rejuvenated and got the motivation to get my life back in track. I spoke to some of my close friends that I hadn't spoken to in years and felt great. I started looking to switch teams so I get a different environment. But I also want to do something else to keep myself occupied. I was thinking of something that could provide some passive income. I tried creating a YouTube channel a few years ago reviewing random stuff, but barely got any views. Stock trading is definitely not my cuppa tea. I'm looking for suggestions. I want to be better, please help! Some background about myself - I started my career in Infosys in India, after a few years of working I got frustrated and applied for Masters in the US. Did the business analytics course from a mediocre university and got an L5 BA job in Amazon. I've been doing this job with 100% mediocrity for the last 5.5 years. My manager converted me to a PM role in between#mentalhealth but I didn't like it and got changed to a BA role again. I had a girlfriend but we broke up due to a bunch of issues. My parents have been pestering me to get 'arranged' marriage but I don't think that's the way for me. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do to keep myself occupied?

Work out and get swole

Amazon BiggLoser OP Jan 8, 2021

That's a good idea. I'm 230 pounds right now lol. I spend almost $800 - $1000 every month on food delivery. FML. I don't even know how to cook anything apart from Ramen (Maggi). I should stop ordering greasy food to begin with.

learning to cook to is a super useful + rewarding skill and hobby too!

You are only 32. Your life just started. Learn from your mistakes and work hard. Great results will automatically follow. Remember to work out very regularly. It will give you confidence to face the day, no matter how challenging it is.

Thanks. Hopefully 2021 turns out to be a good year for me and everyone.

Do you recommend working out in the morning or in the evening?

I learn't these lessons a hard way - 1. Don't label yourself as anything, let alone as a loser. Once you label yourself, your mind has an excuse to use the label and get out of doing tough work. 2. Stop worrying about yourself. If there is one sure-fire way to get depressed is the word me. Keep saying what about me? what is going to happen to me? and you're on a perfect path to get depressed. Get out and start worrying about others. What about my society? What about my country? How can I be of help to everyone around me? Go serve in whatever capacity you can, and see how that changes your life for the best. 3. Learn Sudarshan Kriya (www.artofliving.org). There is tons of research conducted on Sudarshan Kriya and how it can help you start reversing depression in just 2 weeks of practice. It helped me 7 years ago when I was in the same boat as you. Feel free to DM if I can be of more help after following the above 3.

Thanks a lot. I'll DM you over the weekend. I needed to see this. You're right, labeling myself hasn't done any good to me.

You have taken a first step to get back your life and thus first step is the most difficult one. A few things you can do: PERSONALLY: 1) Talk to friends and family. Maybe even visit them temporarily if possible 2) Gift yourself something that makes you happy 3) Workout and try to stay fit 4) Pick a hobby even if you are not good it. What matters is doing something different 5) Think of ways to help others even if it is very small. Remember, ones trash is someone’s treasure. You might think you don’t have anything to offer but you are wrong PROFESSIONALLY: 1) Find a mentor 2) Read books or watch movies that inspire you. This might result in being more than just being a mediocre 3) Start interviewing. Ask friends for referrals 4) Take a course if that can result in sharpening your skills Good luck!

Thanks a lot. I'll add these to my to-do list. It's also a good idea to have separate lists for professional and personal goals. Right now everything is mingled up. I'll doing coursera courses right now. Interviewing is my next step.

Did you just associate $150k networth with loser?

Amazon BiggLoser OP Jan 8, 2021

I know I should be thankful as many others mentioned. But most of my friends (some even 3-4 years younger) have bought a house and have at least 400k in savings.

It's not even about being thankful. You did that. Those are $150 thousand real dollars you can point to, and the tens of thousands of dollars of debt you avoided or paid off to be here. Live YOUR life not other people's.

I’m not sure why you think you’re a loser? I’m 31, $50k net worth, higher TC but I’m also single and hooking up with chicks all the time and I’m super happy with my life

How toxic is Blind honestly? Here’s a guy who wants to throw himself off a bridge because his net worth is “just” 150k at 32. Clinical depression is real but you are not doing yourself a favor sticking around these parts.

Humans inherently are competitive. It's in our evolution

One day at a time. Did you try Miracle Morning routine? Might help with mental and physical health, generate some energy and help to identify goals that make you happy.

I’d give a kidney to get to where you are right now. Take a deep breath, don’t worry about your friends and just focus on one aspect that you want to change. For example your weight and give your best. Make sure that by end of year you are the best version of yourself. That’s all there is man. You’ll never be happy when you compare yourself to people better than you. How about you compare yourself with others who are less fortunate than you. Blind is a horrible place for this. Allow me to explain further, I make very less and I’m 45k in debt. I have a girl but I don’t have the money to marry her. My friends are buying houses and going on with their life. But I forgot to mention that I came from dirt poor family. When I say poor, I mean poor poor. I am way better than what I was. Where I came from, so how can I compare myself with people who came from various backgrounds?. Relax. Do you. Do you well.

First sentence hit me hard!!!

Amazon BiggLoser OP Jan 9, 2021

Thanks a lot! I'll start focusing on working out and hopefully that'll give me some motivation.

I don’t think you should define your life by all the negative things that are going on in your life. I’d strongly suggest you write down three things you are grateful for everyday. That will allow you to see how much more is right and positive in your life.

Amazon BiggLoser OP Jan 9, 2021

I'll try doing that. Thanks 😊
