L4 Google -> 45 interviews, 5 offers, AMA
What is value of rubrik stock given to employees? Someone sent me a link that says that it was 9 USD as of December 2020, after the funding in Series E. I also read comments on Blind about it being around 30-40 usd. I am confused. Source- https://www.vcexperts.com/prime_unicorn_companies/6cf94486-06e9-4236-bc40-d6149980ee22.pdf #tech #rubrik
OP do you have an offer or just trying to get an idea?
Got interviews scheduled in coming days
Last funding was in Jan 2019 at $23.55, current value as about double that. All public info. Good luck with interviews!
Please read the source I provided in the post. Another funding happened in October 2020 at the same price, as that in Jan 2019 / Dec 2018.
How many RSU units do you think will be offered to a 2 YOE person?
Offers are based on 23.55 stock price
Is this value written on the offer?
Yes
Am I the only one who understands what shady thing is going on?
Please shed some light
Rubrik is informally telling employees that the stocks have a fair market value of 23.55 usd. But this price is that of the preferred stocks given to the VCs. In reality the value of the employee stock is only around 9 usd as of 2020 December. The price on Secondary market doesn't reflect the intrinsic value of the company. Since people are assuming their stocks had a value of 23.55 is the last funding, they are selling it at a premium above that price, which is around 40 usd. It is maintaining such high price because buyers are also considering the price 23.55 to judge the value of stock. Don't get me wrong, this is great for employees if they sell Today. But when buyers realise this fact, it will fall drastically. Although 40 usd price is possible when it IPOs, but you can never say.
Once a company goes public, the difference in price of common/preferred shares does not matter. You can find more info here: https://www.secfi.com/equity-academy/preferred-share-price
FMV vs price of preferred shares is very different. I’d advise you do some research on how this stuff works before joining a startup.
Preferred shares are owned by VCs and others are owned by employees and others. Am I correct? For rubrik what is the price of employee stock? It is what that matters ?
FMV is the value from a 409a. The price that employees can sell at on the private market has nothing to do with that.
