Let's say you just quit a company. You have no "insider information" beyond working having worked there and witnessed a shitty, poorly run engineering org that, you feel, has no chance of innovating or engineering anything new that is useful/profitable. You have no insider information into confidential finance or company-wide roadmaps. Can you buy puts in said company based without any issues? Asking for a friend.
You clearly articulate your insider information and how it impacts future performance. You also then post the information publicly. Say hi to Martha Stewart for me.
i dont think thinking a company has poor engineering practices is inside info. its just an opinion. i think inside info would be something like knowing a product release was going to be delayed and the investment community not knowing it yet, and the announcement affects the stock price, and you trade anticipating the announcement
you can never trade on material non public / inside info, whether you work there or not. but since you no longer work there, why would you be restricted otherwise?
You can trade. Insider info need to be more specific - like you saw the confidential finance number before you leave. Otherwise, you are free to trade in any way you want after your employment ends.
