What's it like working for SAP? What don't the glass door reviews say?
i dont see much of the german culture in palo alto. it might be more noticeable at smaller offices. working with german remote teams has been great. they operate on trust and always deliver on their promises on time. they expect us to do the same and we often dont because we are badly managed. workload is average. we dont have to work overtime to succeed. sap is investing a lot in IoT right now.
Not much German culture in Palo Alto from what I see, but SAP governs what we can and cannot do in our software according to German regulations which can be restrictive. For example, getting simple analytics is like walking a tightrope because of the privacy laws in Europe. My experience is that SAP doesn't care much about its workers at an individual level, at least not young early talent (they talk a big talk, but when it comes to the things that matter all of a sudden there isn't money for anything meaningful). All the money seems to get poured into sales.
Well, the problem is that SAP relies heavily on german staff to run it. Even though Bill has changed a bit. So basically all big names and positions are filled by German. But good thing if you are in one of the acquired companies, you pretty much work in that company culture, including promotions. Another biggie, SAP loves work @office, so you need to endure the long commute without the similar pay of other tech companies.
This all depends on which team you are on. In North America, at most offices 70% of the teams work from home. Very little “German influence”, no different than working at any other American based company. Very sales driven in the field offices but workload is balanced compared to other large tech companies. Working a 40-45 hour work week is normal. I have friends at Microsoft, Amazon, Google, FB who typically work 50-60 hours on average. You definitely don’t have that environment at SAP.
I usually work 45-50 hours. But remote, I haven’t been to the office in 5 years. I do travel but only up to 2x a month. Cutting out the commute is big plus. Also having the flexibility of wfh is not replaceable but sometimes do miss the office. In the end tho, I feel underpaid especially after my last raise of 3% when my utilization is through the roof.
Definitely agree it depends what team you work on. Our team is small, we need to be in the office, not remote, and I consistently work 50-60 hrs a week.
