I just joined my job after my masters. I make 350k at Seattle and my friends make a little shy of 100k in India now ( I had 60k TC 1.5 yrs back). Seattle is 10x more expensive than Indian cities ( approx. comparison of groceries, restaurant, rent & real estate). But I make only 3.5x more salary than the Indian salaries. Just wondering, did I make a bad choice from a financial standpoint; keeping aside life experiences, QoL and any other. What are your thoughts, curious? #engineering #software #swe #salaries
It depends man . Purely from a savings perspective you will be better off i feel . I am making around 110k USD(90 lakhs) here in India right now at 4 yoe . Post Tax i get about 65 lakhs . I am remote right now so my expenses hardly cross 10k a month . Thats about 1.5 lakhs a year . Apart from that I take 4-5 domestic trips and couple of international trips(Europe,Singapore,Dubai,Thailand,Bali) and buy some gadgets and gifts for family . My max expense per year is around 8 lakhs . I manage to save about 57-58 lakhs a year . I think you will be saving more than that.
I am not sure if I would have a good savings to live in the USA. As mentioned, the expenses are high. Comparing real estate as that's most expensive as both places. Seattle housing $1M+ for a single family away from the main city. But $100k (80L inr) in India is good enough to buy a single family house with a loan of 3 years. Moreover, sqft. of house in India is gonna be significantly high.
Yeah I get that man . Here also I dont wanna settle in Bangalore for too long , The infra is crap and the real estate is getting expensive . I am looking at options like Chandigarh , Pune , Ahmedabad , Surat and Indore for settling in . Bangalore has became a shithole now , Dont find it suitable for living for too long .
The grass is always greener on the other side
Just try to focus on how much you can grow here instead of worrying about other people in other places. Might seem like a very easy thing to say but I’m in the same place as you are. So just focus on yourself and sleep it off
Haha, True. Indian salary rocket increase in salary over the last 2 years makes me rethink.
Salaries in USA as well as India have increased significantly in past 2 years.. In USA we already see salary drops with freezes and layoffs. I wonder if India would follow this pattern in a few months. Nevertheless u can absolutely save more money being in USA than in India.. Apart from real estate and somewhat food, u can save shit ton of money in USA.. Cars and tech gadgets are super cheap relatively.. Better infra and quality of life as well.
layoffs will be more in the USA as compared to India. India layoffs will not save much money for the tech giants, one USA layoff is same as 4 indian layoffs, few companies are learning to run the show by transferring work to india. Also indian market is in strong position as compared to USA.
Salary increase in India has been way higher than that in US. Look at the recent layoffs in companies which have presence in both countries. 90% of layoffs are in us
India all the way 💖
Just after masters you are making 350k? Are you 30 year old, who did usa masters just to get a job there 😂
Let me play devil's advocate here. You did master just to get a job at amazon which you could have easily gotten in India itself and transferred. So I feel studying outside is a waste of time and financially for you. You can have achieved the same result cheaper and much faster from India. India is the bright spot in the world right now and it will be continue to do so in next 2-3 decades. The quality of life of folks here will increase over the year whereas in US it is declining slowly.
Are you AS L5? How are you making 350k just after MS?
Whats your yoe?
350k tc is huge man. US is the only place to make good income more than India by margin
Mind sharing your friend's company. 80k in India is best TC
$80k is 4.5 cr inr right ?
