Looking for incite about the process of switching from SDE to Data Scientist and the requirements to make such a transition. Any advice you’d give to someone considering this? I’m currently an SDE enrolled in Amazons Machine Learning University and I find it fascinating, but is it enough to make the switch? Those who have made the switch, are you happy with your decision to do so? Also, what is the difference in TC?
Data scientist will be a non-job in 3-5 once all the SE's figure it out and commoditise it.
Actually ML part most SE can figure out , it’s the statistics part that blows their head. But same applies to PM as well, There would be no PM if SE does it job properly
I always laugh so hard when I hear an SE that
Maybe what I was meaning was research scientist, rather than Data Scientist.

Peaceful Protest Hasn’t Worked and Has Been Met With Aggression.
I believe DS is lower than SDE, and that RS is roughly equivalent, but RS people typically have a PhD
My impression is the same. Most of DS I see these days is really BI. ML engineer or applied scientist is sometimes possible without phd, but research usually not.
