So, been an SDM at amazon for like 3.5 years now (6 years as SDE before that). Thinking about jumping ship. Can someone tell me how the roles differ Meta and Amazon ? I’m in an engineering team where almost all my SDM peers are former engineers as well. So, none of that TPM /QA bullshit. I have somewhat okay WLB, interesting product, and have built a well-functioning cohesive team. But, just wanted to switch cause I’m close to reaching my 10 year mark at Amazon. Have heard from an Meta-SWE friend of mine that Engineering managers in Meta don’t have a lot of technical input to provide. The engineering culture is driven by engineers and managers there only handle people and stakeholder management. That feels like the death of the tech guy in me, so was wondering about the role differences. TC : 400k#swe
Meta EMs are paper weights. Only people aspects.
Become an SDE, let the tech guy in you flourish.

lol this op would be hesitant I’m sure
You like to generalize and not open-minded. I'm not sure you'll pass M1 hiring bar. Not a good fit.

Move and bump TC by 60%. Probably get to work with same or better engineers. What’s there to lose?
TC will likely go up only by 100-150k, considering M1 offers go like 550-600k in Seattle these days. Not a huge pay bump, tbh. Meta’s WLB is shit and I’d not bet my mental health for 100k 😅
No way E6 are offered 550k including bonus. Don’t join with 550k, your E5s are making more than you as of now.
