Which would you pick?
Your take home will be just around 10k more in SFO. Add the cost of living, you'll have a significant difference in lifestyle between the two cities at the posted TC.
Not even close. Your take home in SFO would be $6k/yr more in SFO. Cali has higher taxes. SF is super expensive place to live. At $128k you’re at the top of low class or bottom of middle class. But the tech is here. I would suggest not to come until you can get hired for much more. Texas is a better choice until then. Much better cost of living.
I agree with you. If they're young, single and wouldn't mind the grind, SF is a great place to start. But for a comfortable living at the given TCs, I'll take Dallas.
SF from a career standpoint, it's not about todays tc it's about tc a few years out (making broad assumptions about your state or career/life).
It doesn’t matter if you have 3YOE in SF at some generic SWE shop vs the same elsewhere. Unless you have some sort of gain like a big skill in (people) networking. Then it’s much better to go elsewhere and apply in a few years when the TC will be higher.
Completely disagree, you build your network where you live.
SF you better get on the list for rent controlled housing. But you can make more after qualifying.

SF. Dallas isn’t a tech hub
128k in SF though? That’s peanuts. 95k in Dallas can give you much better lifestyle.
