So my energy bills are over $200-$300 with PGE. I am looking to go full solar and I don’t know where to start. I checked Tesla simply because of the brand name. Overall cost is 25k after 10k in rebates and CA incentives. #### Questions for solar owners #### * What’s the advantage of owned vs leased solar? Is it worth the investment? * How to choose a provider? Any recommendations? Anyone to avoid? * I don’t have a Tesla car, but might buy one in the future - are there any additional incentives with Tesla solar panels? * We have a pool in the backyard. It’s not heated, but I’d like to also consider heated pool as an option in the future. Would solar panels setup work with that? * Any hacks/tips on how to maximize incentives in CA with PGE? (Lastly) * ANY REASON TO NOT GO SOLAR? Thank you in advance for you insights.
What happens when you don’t have many sunny days during the winter months in Northern California? Will the solar panels be effective? Without sufficient energy from the sun, won’t you still need to pull power from PG&E? Same goes for nights?
During the daytime, you send excess power back to PGE and use it at night from the grid.
When you send excess power back to PG&E, I’m assuming PG&E “buys” it at a rate that is 🥜 and when you need that power at night, PG&E charges you more than 🥜?
What size of system you choose ?
The system recommended 8.16kW at 26k, and two power walls. 87% self powered. I am thinking of going to 12kW at 32k for 100 self powered
Thinking about get the same system but 1pw thought..so cheaper a bit more. We don't have blackout much...anyway. but hesitate due to horrible customer service from Tesla solar. Anyone experience with that ?
Tesla is using out-dated technology. I recommend LG panels with micro-inverters. Don’t bother with batteries.. Just produce enough during the day to cover what you will buy at night from PG&E. Also, if your water heater is gas, consider switching to an electric hybrid
Who is the provider?
It’s not out of dates technology. They don’t have micro inverters but you don’t need it anyway. And panel wise they use Q cell and it is fine.
What about Tesla roof? Any experiences there?
Yeah, I’m interested about this too.
The roof is so hella pricey but increases home value even more than Tesla solar panels. Currently my house roof is also in great condition and I will 100% do solar roof after 20 years.
You need gas heater for pool. Electrical heating is very slow for pool.
All you need is a floating cover for the pool and the pool will heat itself for free.
Leasing with the PPA program they put a lien on your home. They don’t call it a lien but it is. When you meet with someone, look up how long they have been in business. A lot of small solar companies don’t make it for long.
Double check your bill to see how much of it is gas usage.
80% electric
