Posting for a friend. A friend of mine is a victim of identity theft. He uses mint mobile and somehow his number was ported out. The hackers used his phone number to do phone and text based verification and got into his bank accounts, credit cards, PayPal etc and also started opening new credit in his name. All within a couple of hours. Mint mobile has done nothing to help - just opened a case and said it will take 48-72 hours to help. He has frozen his credit and closed his bank accounts down and filed a police case. What else can and should he do?#misc #scam
Good reminder for everyone to enable a SIM PIN on your phone. Also, keep your credit frozen all the time. Schedule a thaw when you need to apply for a loan. If he’s frozen his credit with the three big agencies, told the banks and credit card companies, disputed charges, then there’s nothing else that can be done but wait. The bank will update his account number and refund any lost funds, the credit card companies will cancel any new cards and replace his existing ones.
