Hello seems like everyone on here is making 250k TC or more and working in tech. I’m neither, I work as a product manager for a manufacturing company with mechanical engineer degree. Want to know is my TC low compared to others? I live in Houston, TX and TC is around 120k with 4 YOE TC 120 YOE 4
I just got my first PM job at a tech-ish company (hardware/software product). Degrees in civil engineering, 5 years of experience in civil design engineering (0 in tech). TC 143k full remote.
That’s awesome did they require any certifications or comp sci qualifications? If so what were they? Technical interview? Also my role is full remote too.
I took a few community college CS classes preparing for OMSCS, which i start in January. I got super lucky because the product is a traffic product and I’m a traffic engineer. I basically had to highlight passion to learn and passion for tech. The hardware/software teams loved that my background meant I could give way more specific and detailed requirements about what a feature needs to do. Plus my manager wants me to be the subject matter expert on its implementation. The pay breakdown comes out to 130k base + 10% bonus
This app started with almost entirely tech workers, so that’s part of the reason everyone on this app seems to be in tech… I think that’s generally a decent and very respectable salary. However, if you want more, yeah I think tech is /one/ place to find it
I’d imagine that’s a decent tc for Houston. Don’t stress about what others make. As long as you’re happy, you’re good.
That's appropriate for your yoe and houston
Tech industry compensation is just different tbh. Most industries don’t have this many people making >$150-250k. Have you looked at numbers in your industry to compare?
