Which offer is better and i got laid off and got two offers i have a family. wife is working remote job #layoff #pharma #insurance
$175K in bay area with a family might be difficult. Definitely tough call since you'll lose $60K if you go to Austin. Also no state tax in TX. Which team did you like better? Any chance of negotiating with UHG? Congrats on getting 2 offers in this market.
Gsk is R&D and uhg is migration project i donot mind either but i just am thinking where i can save more money.
I’d ask for more and pick Austin. Austin is growing rapidly but the suburbs are still pretty reasonable from expenses stand point. You’d definitely save more in Austin than SF.
I'd go for the offer with more career prospects which imo is gsk
Is there no way to negotiate a signing bonus? No equity either? Damn. U need to evaluate other non quantitative criteria like learning opportunities, passion for the role, team culture and opportunities to grow into a bigger role.
I am too afraid to negotiate in this job market thank you all for the input
You have two offers. What are you afraid of?
If you’re working for Optum at UHG, just know that they are working through pretty big acquisition and it has resulted in several rounds of layoffs with more expected to come.
It is not optum they do not sponsor h1b candidates at all so not in the optum but i am just worried about uhg too now
Uhg atleast on careers website they have been opening positions a lot
Do the math but I think with taxes, housing, and other cost of living, TX makes more sense.
The $ difference is hard to swallow even if it’s SF and Austin. I’d lean GSK but this is tough.
Yoe? Level at gsk?
I have 4 years of experience i think it is l7
