What’s a usual range for an engineer working in Portland? I have around 2 years experience so pretty new.
Peanuts. Don't waste your time. Portland sucks anyway.
and why does portland suck?
Depends what type of person you are. There is a severe lack of sunshine 9 months per year. (Even NYC and Boston get 2x as many sunshine hours in the winter months.) Portland also lacks smart, educated and ambitious people. It's very laid back and it's impossible to drive faster than 60 mph on most freeways because people moronically crowd across all lanes, everyone drives slowly and Oregon's idiotic cops pull people over for driving 8 mph over the speed limit, because there are far too many of them relative to the population and they have nothing better to do. Portland also has the least attractive people of any major west coast city because like everything else in their lives, its residents don't care about their appearance. TL;DR Portland is the perfect place if you're a lazy pothead who likes to watch Netflix and go on hikes.
2 YOE makes you senior around these parts Also from what I’ve heard Portland hates us... I have no value to add to this discussion
