Hello all, I got an offer from ARM as an engineer for Austin location. Base pay is $120000 Bonus :$10000 RSU: $50000 vesting in 3 years plus some yearly add-on. It is not a publically traded company and is planning for ipo in coming years. This will be my first job in USA. Should I negotiate my offer? If yes, what should I ask more.. Thanks #arm #tech #amazon #microsoft #googleads #glassdoor
RSU/Stock Option for pre-IPO companies needs to be treated like what it actually is: a highly speculative investment that may or may not ever pay off. People including those kinds of things in their TC is how so many Blind users easily hit 250k and way above (I was seeing a ton of fives and sixes during 2021). Base salary should be the new Blind tax IMO.
Not true. Most people posting those figures were working in publicly traded companies with RSUs. I’m assuming your company does not have stock which is why you are saying this. Have heard other clowns working for private companies also claim that stock compensation usually means nothing
They will cash out if ipo diesnt happen, what's worth discussing though is the price point they have set per share.
Ask but don’t play hardball, as there are layoffs everywhere
Yes. I am graduating this December and looking at the job mar6, I am greatful that I have a job
I do see ARM going by the end of 2024. At that base pay you can live good in Austin.
What does 50k RSU vesting in 3 year mean ? Are u getting 50k per year, but only 1/3 vests the first year ?
50 k in three year's tenure
Arm’s IPO in the next few years. We’ll see about that in the current environment. They had massive layoffs this year, be careful.
'Massive layoff' was in non-tech roles.
Austin people getting lowballed. No idea why one would chose to live in TX over CA. Lower pay and worse quality of life, more racists etc.
TX has no state income taxes And TX is way better than the 💩hole of CA.
Not true. Yes, there are more racists in Texas, way more. Lower pay is true but taxes are lower too. Worse quality of life, yes. Oh .. I'm agreeing with you mostly looks like
ARM is a good place to work. With that salary you would be ok as a single. With a family expenses will feel tight. Apartments around the ARM office are a bit cheap tho.
So should in negotiate.??
I think with your experience you should be ok with the current offer. You could try and ask for 5k more base and it shouldn’t hurt anything
What grade is that offer for? If you are single you would live comfortably with that TC. I wouldn’t worry about layoffs at Arm. That is already done early this year. So, it’s much safer than others I would say.
Was the layoff non-engineering ? Do they give annual RSU as refresher too ?
