Hi everyone! This is my first time posting on blind, I’ve been following the website for a while and I was wondering if anyone could share some advice. I recently left my Licensed Financial Service Representative role at E*TRADE/Morgan Stanley. I loved trading but I realized that I didn’t enjoy it when I tried to make a career out of it. I’ve always had a passion for sales and I love working with new technology. I’m looking to hopefully pursue a career in tech sales. I graduated last year with a Bachelors in Marketing. For the last 8 years all of my jobs have had a sales component to it, whether it was upselling rooms and packages at the Waldorf Astoria or generating leads at E*TRADE/Morgan Stanley. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to break into the industry and land a position, or potentially provide a referral. I am aware of the huge hiring freeze going on everywhere. Currently based in Florida, also interested in remote positions. Thank you all for any information that is shared! This will be some brutally honest advice but hopefully it will help you. Even though you have ‘sales’ experience it won’t count with hiring managers at tech companies. You will need to start in an entry level sales role. Look for the following roles: - business development representative - sales development representative (SDR) You also won’t be able to get any interviews with any of the companies you tagged above. You need to look for the SDR roles above at startups or less flashy companies. They will most likely take a chance on someone new to the industry and you can work your way to an AE after that. Tldr look for SDR roles at lower tier tech companies, work hard, become an AE in 12-18 months, profit.
I really appreciate that, thank you for taking the time to break that down. It helps a lot
