I have recently cleared Amazon loop interview for SDE and about to receive offer for the same. The dilemma is whether I should continue with Salesforce or switch to Amazon. Following are the details about both... Yoe - 3.5 SALESFORCE (bay area) - existing TC is 200k. I am not self praising, but I have very positive reviews from my peers, and still I believe I am highly underpaid (bcoz looks like folks coming fresh out of college are given nearly same TC) - I like staying in bay area and have friends here - in coming March appraisal, don't expect TC to go beyond 230 (even if I am being optimistic about raise and and refreshers) - perks at Salesforce are better (like espp, 401k, HSA adds potentially 15k to tc yearly) - my WLB at Salesforce is pretty messed up only (Salesforce Industries has different culture than overall Salesforce) AMAZON (will be in Seattle) - expected TC 275 - this will be in Seattle and from the reviews, it might not be as good as bay area - all the reviews about Amazon on blind have made me a bit paranoid. I don't mind working more or having a below average WLB. Since I am young, that might be okay for a couple years atleast. What concerns is PIP/Corporate politics if any. - down the line, (Salesforce + Amazon) might look more attractive on resume than just Salesforce. To add on the above, I am not enjoying the work at Salesforce too much, but atleast it's known devil. Although I am very inclined to accept Amazon offer, want to know if I am missing anything in evaluating my options? Update 1) for those who say stay with salesforce, it will really help me to understand what could be decisive factor for that... #tech #salesforce #amazon #seattle #bayarea #swe #softwareengineer Update 2) received the Amazon offer. TC for first two years is 285k in Seattle.
Go for Amazon and resume interviews in a couple of months to go elsewhere
Amazon gives you 5% of the total rsu in year 1, and again a small amount in year 2. Does 275k assume getting 25% of the RSU each year, or is it really 5%? Are they offering a cash bonus to join? Then again Salesforce is starting stack ranking and pipping the bottom 5%. I voted to stay at Salesforce because Amazon is a nightmare.
It's 275k yearly at Amazon
Go for Amazon if you’re young.
I would say wait for a bit and look for better opportunities in the Bay Area. Seattle weather and the minimal bump in TC and that too with Amazon is not worth the move.
I agree with that upto certain point. Only thing is that I have been applying to many places for quite some time now, but I don't hear back of get resume reject. So concerned that might continue for sometime ..
Salesforce: Known Bay Area Can change internally Can look for other options Amazon Unknown and bad wlb Seattle weather Not much of a bump in TC
if you have no kids and have no family responsibilities, go for Amazon 100%
275k in Seattle is much better than 230k in Bay considering WLB ain’t good in either places.
And no state tax in WA
