Looks like samsara hr team doesn’t want to do any negotiations. They offered 150K , 15K stocks (which is of no value right now) . No yearly bonus , no sign on bonus. I asked for 170K . That’s it . No counter offer and hr said, the offer is off the table right now. Is this how they do it ? Anyways i don’t have any regrets for missing that.

Why?
1) horrible wlb 2) fear driven culture 3) under market pay 4) shit projects 5) sales driven. No scope for growth, which is half the reason why you’d join a startup (only around 100 engineers in a 1300 person company) 6) REALLY sketchy HR. Rescinding offers for negotiating, reports of manager retaliation. Laid of ~20% of the company on the same day as receiving additional $400M in funding. Laid off disproportionate amount of women, black people, and other POC (then went and posted feel-good shit about BLM a month later lll). 7) Immense favoritism. If the execs like you, you’re fast tracked. If they don’t like you, your opinions don’t matter no matter how senior you are (saw multiple directors and sr engineering managers get shafted) 8) Bad treatment new grads; elitism. New grad offers were rescinded across the board literally unless you want to Berkeley or MIT (lots of execs from these two schools). Many friends or friends of friends are still struggling because they turned down F or G for Samsara after their internships last fall, but now few companies are hiring junior engineers. Saw people punished for their family’s financial background (chose scholarships at less famous schools) 9) some execs are personally rude people. Have personally seen very high up execs talk shit behind other people’s backs... or to their faces lol. 10) insane micromanagement. Execs being shitty people normally doesn’t matter unless you’re very high up... but they like to insert themselves into random meetings and overrule your decisions and expertise

Guess what else... you can expect equity-only raises (valuing the equity same as what would have been your raise) for years to come. Run away. Just run. Trust me.

Let's put it this way - I think if you're ok with a certain level of chaos samsara is a Greta place to work for and fundamentally a good business. However, it seems like most employees who have joined in the last few years are being paid less than say fang (and the previous joiner generation are mostly well paid via stocks)
