Hi all, Im currently interviewing for a HW position at Samsung in the new San Jose office. I've heard mixed things about it so wanted to hear back from people who work or have worked there. In particular, I'd be interested in: -Work culture and management style -Review and raise structure -Benefits and compensation -Peers
Don't leave nvidia now.
Really long hours and Korean work culture. Make sure you negotiate really hard on the salary.
My feeling is that it would have to be a fairly significant (25%+) jump from my current compensation package. This is aside from the company culture and role which I'll still need a lot of consideration.
Wtf? Why leaving Nvidia for Samsung, that too now?! Nvidia is a long imo, an incredible company.
I know it sounds crazy but it would be for a position in which I believe I can build a very different set of skills. NV has definitely been great over the years (5+) but I feel I've more to learn and experience. Finally, I'm still early in my career where I can afford the mobility. At this time though, not serious about leaving yet until I fully understand the opportunity.
All depends on the lab. For me, best WLB, best manager and best coworkers ever. But HQ has most of ownership to make any important decisions and they are very conservative, don't want to be aggressive or creative. If you are a project lead or above level, you will have a lot of travels to HQ. Once you be a manager, it will be a little bit hard to get raise. But they are generous on review and bonus. Benefits is good enough and you will pay very little on medical premium and they will pay the most.
Thank you for the feedback. Do u mind sharing what team you're on (assuming it's a big enough team to still keep this anonymous)? I think the level I will be considered for depends on how the interview goes. Apparently there are a few positions open on the team.
My team is pretty small and it's not in San Jose office. But I can tell you Samsung culture is all same everywhere.
don't even think about it. person I know works there, its a crazy stupid culture, not conducive to software development
Does your friend work in the San Jose office? I've heard things can vary quite a bit even by office and/or team. Do you know if it also apply to HW teams?
"explosive" culture? ok, I'm out
Korean work culture will crush your soul.
Don't work for any Korean or Japanese firm, culture sucks.
Man you people are a bunch of whiny bastards. Don't work for Koreans and Japanese, SAP dudes say don't work for Germans, don't work for Chinese, don't work for Indians. Who do you want to work for? The vulcans?

Do you really feel special in your Tesla?
Heard from a friend who worked there it was culturally Korean male centric, very hierarchical and slow at making decision Logging long hours was important.Management starting to realize and try fixing it React if experienced or heard differently
