Samsung vs AWS

Samsung would be a DevOps role and AWS would be cloud support engineer - level 2. I would prefer DevOps but the salary AWS is paying is 30% higher than Samsung. Any thoughts and recommendations?

This is one of the rare situations where AWS wins. You’re going to have a much higher ceiling at AWS, even apart from the 30% higher salary.

I’d normally say AWS is a hell hole but Samsung… ooff they’re bunch of idiots. I know because my company has dealings with them. Amazon might be full of jerks and toxicity but I bet the people are more competent.

I hear Samsung is run Gangam style. You will work harder than AWS for less pay. Also, you're not allowed to make Korean office employees look bad even if they screw up.

This is the problem I was having. Gross incompetence with some tech on their end, and the moment you hint that one of them doesn’t know what they’re talking about they start making threats.

With cloud support engineer role, you will be solving customer issues via cases. There will be monthly case resolve target. You will get bored after 1-2 years. Take AWS if money is important and you can move after 2-3 year. Otherwise, Samsung would be better if it's not a support role.

I'm not saying AWS is good, but in any role it is better than a K-inc company. That goes for both salary and culture.

My only concern is that Samsung is a DevOps role and less support focused. Am I pigeonholing myself if I choose AWS?

The anti-Amazon sentiment on blind is insane. Samsung somehow has a worse blind rating and pays less, yet it’s a tie. Amazing. Not saying AWS is a good place to work by any means… but take AWS.

Samsung you work hard just like aws but without the pip concern. aws the growth will be more. i think samsung is a place where you have room to learn a lot. also devops is an area with immense potential.i like aws too unlike some people on blind but i wpuld not go for a cloud support role.

Fortunately coming in as a L5 CSE will save you a lot of time and effort. Most Amazon jobs are L5 so internal transfer is a lot easier than L4 (most CSE roles). But yes, almost every CSE aims to leave the org at some point.
