Does anyone working at AWS Cupertino office commute from trivalley area (Dublin/San Ramon) ? Is it soul crushing or remotely possible with 2 days wfh. Spouse will be 3 days wfh and a 3 year old daughter.
It's a wild card.... Bad weather and crashes can make it hell on earth and unpredictable so lot of wasted time because of a maybe. I did a similar commute and it once took me 4hrs when off traffic times it takes 45 min. Rain + multiple crashes fucked my day all up lol
There is train option (Ace train). You need to deal with first & last mile commute though. The train gets you from Pleasanton to Great America with only 2-3 stops in beween. Many companies run shuttles to companies at Great America Station.
So you would essentially walk, drive, take a train and then a shuttle to get to work? That's the cost of owning a house these days?
It will be a huge pain commuting that far risking your life. Car accidents are directly correlated with number of miles driven. And on 680 the roads are too windy and there are too many crazy drivers out there. https://sigelmanassociates.com/california-car-accident-statistics/

Any thoughts to share ?
San Ramon is soooo far away and you have to go through choke points. All my coworkers who commute from SR and Dublin hate their life.
By moving to San Ramon, you'll gain a superior quality of life, with access to top-rated schools, a safe environment, and modern homes in desirable communities. In contrast, South Bay offers older, outdated housing with low ceilings. Factor in the additional two hours of commute time per week with 2-3 days RTO, and the decision becomes clear. San Ramon's beauty and serenity will captivate you, making it an easy choice if you decide to make the move.
Living in San Ramon is the behavior of irrational parents where they throw away their entire life just for the kids. Everything for the kids. Sacrificing their own life in the process like a martyr. Not a good life, bro. Don’t live like this.
It’s not sacrificing when u derive happiness for the things u do for your kids. It’s not a selfless deed.
Don’t be a martyr. Live good life for everyone.
Also don't just look at your commute to South Bay in next 10 years you may work in SF too , hard from Dublin takes you there in 50 mins . Yes driving time is 2 hour a day , may be you find a way to enjoy that.
The way I look at it be it anywhere u stay up will be 30-40 min from work. Trivalley adds 1more hour of commute time every day
SF is closer to the tri-valley than from South Bay, that's what salesforce meant, so there is a reduction of commute in that case.
Not cupertino, but I do dublin/pleasanton to amazon Palo Alto thrice a week. Quickest I can get there is 50 minutes, bad day is 90 minutes one way I do have the flexibility of time though, so I commute late mornings(after 9) and late evenings(after 6)
Should I rent in trivalley and see how things go first before buying ? Did any do this kind of pilot run
The daughter gets to spend more time with your spouse not you. 1 hour on good days but if there's a crash 2 hours+. Would you like to spend more time on the road? There's a reason why trivalley area fetches you more for the same price even with great schools. The commute is good for those who work in Workday, Oracle or may be tesla. The area is good for families but sorry to say the commute to any city in the south bay will be brutal.
I drive from San Ramon to San Jose. I don't like driving, so I think I would have been happier renting in South Bay with a 15 min commute. Got into peer pressure 😔
South Bay is really out of our budget to buy home now. Newark/fremont - we will get a shack. Difference between Fremont and San Ramon is one hour of commute. Worth the sacrifice is what I was thinking.
