Scalable capitalism bad for society?

Is big tech bad for society? I started thinking about this when i read an article where Amazon recommends buying suicide kits for its users (teenage kids in this case) the other week. The argument i hear is that how can they control who puts what on their platform (granted ebay and other platforms have prohibited the sell of the specific chemicals used years ago) and it makes me wonder maybe these platforms shouldn’t exist. Between fb and yt, there’s endless abusive content being uploaded, all of which contractors have to monitor all day until they get ptsd to keep the platforms from being flooded with illegal media. And that’s just in the US, imagine how bad these platforms can be in developing countries, where they’re not as strictly reported. What do you guys think, should big tech be allowed to work at a scale where they can’t govern themselves?

I don’t think tech is evil. People are just stupid. Don’t blame YouTube and Facebook for user profiling and getting you addicted — that’s their whole business model. Stop using it if you don’t like it.

What are you talking about? I’m saying that people upload illegal stuff onto YouTube and fb. Is that okay to do? Also the kids buying the suicide kit are kids not adults

Great idea. Let's ban Amazon. While we are at it, let's ban cars. You know, they can be lethal murder weapons. Also let's ban electricity. Someone might get electrocuted and die. Also, let's all revive support for Rakhi Savant and urge modiji to ban all ceiling fans since one can hang themselves and die on them 😝
