eBay is transitioning the 401k management from Schwab to Fidelity. Naturally, Schwab is trying to convince me to roll the funds over to an IRA account (I already have an IRA account with them, but with a very small balance so I haven't really done much with investments and such), saying I will get personalized advice, a choice of funds with no "transaction" fees, great customer service, portfolio guidance tools online, yadda yadda. What has your experience been with them? Does it make a difference at all?
I never used Schwab, but I wanted to say that I'm really happy with Fidelity, from customer service to fees. Been using them for 5yrs and wouldn't change them for 401, IRAs, and some stocks.
Fees are very similar between the two
IDK what are the fees at Schwab. I only said that I'm very happy with Fidelity. My wife has E*TRADE from work, and it looks like website from the 90s compared to Fidelity (and features as well).
Fidelity website and online tools are a lot better than Schwab's.
many thanks to all for chiming in :)
Fidelity's website is better, but you should choose whichever offers the indexes you need at a better expense ratio.
401k are hard to compare purely based on the firm managing it. It largely depends on what funds are made available for *your* specific plan. LinkedIn is currently with Fidelity & our plan is quite good. I hear the Microsoft plan with Fidelity is even better (even lower cost funds). Prior to LinkedIn, my previous company also offered 401k through Fidelity & that plan was just plain awful. So, tldr - hard to say based on available data. In terms of customer service, I'm very happy with FiDo. I think they have one of the best service today.
I need some advice to rebalance the portfolio, e.g. a combination of funds, essentially. Nothing too elaborate, for now at least. but, would be nice to know if they are good also for stock trading or to get more sophisticated in the future.
I've been happy with Schwab for portfolio consultation. You need to have at least 25k in your account.
